okay, so i attempted the hotswap trick pinned in this forum because i have no M$ controller to use the flashbios program. i booted with a duox2blue into evox, got right up to the point where i pick yes to flash.

at this point i pulled the blue chip and swapped with the white chip. the led on the white chip does not come on, and when i tell it to flash, it says "flash not writeable".

 

after trying this two or three times, i gave up and returned the box to normal usage with the blue chip.

now, i can only run evox for about 1 minute before the screen goes out and the ring flashes yellow.

You have to maintain the grounded d0 point to hotswap chips or it will not flash.
I think you may need to jumper the bt point to pin 9 in order to flash as well when hotswapping a DouX, I always do it anyway.  



Chancer will be able to confirm whether this is necessary or not, but I believe that is why your led isn't lit, as the chip is disabled.


And as for the flashing orange eject led...... is your fan plugged in and turning?

One last thing.... the dvd remote works with flashbios, if you have that, use it.

thanks for the dvd remote tip! i never tried that.

 

yes, the orange/yellow (whatever) flashing was due to the fan not being plugged in, i caught it moments after posting. i should have known better.

 

i did everything according to the guide.

YES, i had BT jumped.

YES, i had D0 grounded to a screw.

YES, the chip was properly swapped.

 

after getting the error message, i shut it off, and turned it back on to verify that the chip was connected properly.

the chip worked properly when the xbox was reset, just not when it was hot-swapped.

if i try to execute an *.xbe when i hotswap, i get a black screen.

 

 

i remember trying to do this once before, and i couldn't get it to work.

when i heard about others succesfully doing it, i decided to try again.

i still can't get it to work.

 

not sure if it matters...

the blue chip i'm using to boot is the old-school blue. it has an AMD chip (not hynix).

the white chip i'm swapping is the GS edition. it also has an AMD chip.

i'm using my own custom evox menu to flash.

i have no issues with it other than the hotswap not working.

Make sure the ID for the chip is correct. If the ini in your eveox flash program does not have the correct flash ID for the white chip it will not work.
 Personally I always use Eurasia. I boot the disc with the good chip and hot swap when it asks for the bios disc. I have a custom evox based disv though that does work fine

well, i'm not sure if it's a flash ID problem.

maybe the chips have different flash ID's?

 

using this same evox script, i have no trouble flahing any of my duox2 whites when i have a bios on them that will run evox.

 

how do i go about checking to see if these chips have different flash ID's?

will the hotswap not work if they are different?

(edit) i forgot to ask..
should the swap-in duo's LED start blinking as soon as i drop it on the pinheader?

Check the flash type and then check the inin on your flash disc to make sure the chip type is listed.
 Providing the flash ID is in the evox.inin on your custom flash disc it should work. I have hot swapped Aladdins with Apple X V and DuoX chips.
 The chip LED should blink when you insert it on the pin header.
 The other possibilities are a faulty chip or clone chip.

not a faulty chip,

when i reboot, it boots off the chip i swapped in.

 

not a clone,

my seller was referred to me by team omega, since i always buy large quantity.

i don't think they'd hook me up with clones.

 

my evox.ini has the chip ID, because i can flash it with my evox.ini.

i just can't swap it. the led does not blink when i swap.

 

i'm going to go back over the proceedure and see if i missed something.

i'll report back then.
