Duox2 Gs... Cromwell+eurasia+m8 1.6 Read Only Error

I bought 2 of these chips for a couple boxen, 1.6 and 1.0.  The 1.0 flashed up fine with AID 3.0 and it's merrily on its way.

This 1.6 is not behaving right.  I get the usual blank screen on the FlashBios 3.0.3 bank, but it boots up Cromwell just fine.  I've created eurasia and bios discs and I get a read only error while trying to erase the installed bios (I am flipping the switch to the FlashBios bank in case something happens)

Error: Erase failed for block at +0x0, reads as 0x5d

Any ideas?  I'd really prefer to overwrite the FlashBios bank vs. the Cromwell....  Anyone run into this before?

Usually indicates bad soldering somewhere (One of the LAD lines), or a defective chip.
