Chip Installation Problem (
« on: December 13, 2006, 07:08:00 AM »

Duo X2 White (not flashed yet)

OK, here we go. I modded three boxes yesterday. Two were fine but the other does not work. I've done some troubleshooting but cannot get the bios to come up with the chip plugged in. I have:
- resoldered everything twice
- checked for continuity from D0 on chip to D0 on motherboard
- checked for continuity from the bottom of the pin header (bottom of motherboard) to top of chip
- grounded D0
- changed the chip out with a new one

The XBox is a ver 1.0 with the chip wired with D0 on the bottom of the motherboard and a jumper between BT and G (see pic below).

With the chip plugged in (not flashed):
Boots and XBox light is solid green with no video (chip light flashing).

With the chip unplugged:
Tries to boot twice and on the third try the XBox blinks RED - YELLOW with no video (chip light flashing).

With the chip plugged in to the wrong pins (see note below <G>):
XBox boots fine to the MS Dashboard

The wrong pin hookup was a mistake on my part where I thought I was plugging the chip in but missed a row of pins.  A,B,C,D,E are plugged into the pins where I,H,G,F  would normally be plugged in (see picture below for locations of those ABC pins) and I,H,G,F are hanging over the edge of the LPC header (i.e. the chip is shifted one row of pins toward the center of the motherboard):

Something with the "wrong pin hookup" caused the MS Dash to load when it won't load with the chip unplugged. Not sure if this will help you guys determine what I did wrong.
