Thank you, I was working on that. I just downloaded Slayers Evox 2.7 and burned it to a CD-RW (I don't have a DVD burner at home, only at work), but the box wouldn't read it. I'll just have to wait until Monday to use my burner at work to try again. Hopefully it will work then. I can back-up my saved games via FTP before the install, right?
So on the install of that disc what programs do you recommend. I like the look of XBMC, but have heard good things about EvoX. I mainly am going to use my modded box to access music and video stored on my pc to play on my living room TV. Eventually I'll look into playing with some of the scripts offered; emulators, browsers etc., and I'll also like to eventually install a bigger hard drive.
One more thing, has anyone had any luck using the xbox as a DVR after installing a larger hard drive? Is it powerful enough for that?
Thanks again for you help.
First of all, good choice on trying the DVD burner. Not all xboxes can read all CD or even DVD's, but a burned DVD is more likely to be read by an xbox than a burned CD.
If you want to use your xbox as a media center, then XBMC is probably the best choice. Of course, you can launch XBMC from evox, Avalaunch or any other dashboard, it simply takes one more step.
The Xbox will work fine as a DV player, I don't know about DV recording since I didn't know of any TV tuner or video input device that works with the xbox. If there was, it would have to have a hardware encoder since most video encoding software requires at least a 1G CPU and the encoded stream will have to go through the ethernet port since the game controller ports are only USB 1.1.
In terms of using XBMC to play videos stored on your PC or on a network attached disk, it works great.
