Duox2 Gs (white) Cromwell Install Help
« on: October 04, 2006, 10:22:00 PM »

Alright, I've searched and searched, and obviously I'm a noob, but I need help installing this modchip.  I've never soldered before, but a buddy of mine will take care of that.  From what I've seen, I need to solder the pin header to the mobo, and the chip to the pin header, and connect the D0 via wire (which the company I bought the modchip from didn't include, so what should I use, what gauge, etc.?)

I'm a little confused about the BT, should I connect this to the back of the eject button, on the upper left area?

And lastly, and most importantly, what is the  blue "circuit board" piece which was included used for?  All it says on it is 1.6 circuit board, and in all of the pics I've seen with this chip installed, I've never seen this piece.  It also has a D0 flat pad on it, do I solder this as well, and to where?  Do I even use this piece.  Help!

You solder the female header to the chip, and the male header to the motherboard.

If you have a 1.6 console, you solder on the LPC rebuild as well; if not you don't.

On a 1.6, d0 goes to the d0 pad on the rebuild pcb; on anything else d0 goes to a d0 point on the motherboard (bottom one is easiest).

BT goes to the point on the back of the P/E board, or to the alternate point on the bottom of the board.

Chancer's tutorial should help though.. read up:

Alright, that makes sense.  Thanks for the info.  Another question tho, with every pic I've seen of the xbox mobo, and modding it with a chip (with a pin header), like in the link you gave me, the pin header goes through the mobo.  On mine, there are no holes.  I don't even have a hole to put the D0 wire through so I could solder onto the other side.  They are just small, flat areas where I can solder on top of.  And I've made sure I'm looking at the same area as on the pics.  Any thoughts?

That means you either have a 1.0 or 1.1 xbox with solder filled LPC holes.

You can either 1) Desolder the LPC holes (remove the solder from) with desoldering braid or a desoldering pump and then do a pinheader install.. or 2) Quicksolder the chip directly to the motherboard (you don't use either pinheaders for that).

The downside to the second method is the chip is much harder to remove should you ever need to, and if you mess something installing up it's potentially harder to fix as well. The upside is its quicker and potentially a bit easier than desoldering.

if you dont want to do the install, appleguru and I both offer isntall services.

but given the level of experience you display, you will probably save money in the long run by getting it installed professionally.
