Help With New Duox 2 Chip
« on: August 03, 2006, 12:40:00 PM »

Hey man, I've had that problem before, No matter what chancer says, It worked for me.

Check it, When it boots up and then frags on/off 3 times, on the 3rd reboot, press the eject button. I think it has to do with missing voltage or something, Cuz then when you press and hold the eject button, it should load the bios from the bank. (bank 2 does this for me ? ) its a weird thing, but yea, it works.. it might take you a few tries to get it right, but thats what i have to do everytime i wanna boot my bios from bank 2

The only  voltage that would be missing is from your poor  install work. Trust me this ain't a feature of this chip. I have fitted almost 500 in the last couple of years including the original DuoX and not one issue of having to go through this routine to make the chip boot.
By the way DuoX does not have a Bank 2 (Bank 0 or Bank 1). Ship your box to me I will make it boot from either bank first time for free.

Double check all the soldering and the original install. Something somewhere has come adrift. Check the chip is still firmly seated on its pinheader and double make sure all the LPC connections are ok. If the problem occurred immediately after a bios flash it could likely be that both banks on the chip are corrupt
Of course you are free to take whatever advice you wish

Chancer has 500 DuoX2 installs, and I will back him with my 250 DuoX2 installs in saying that he is 100% correct.  Fragging is a sign of an improper install (either soldering or flashing).
Pressing the eject might work for you, but that is not fixing the problem now is it?

I had a similar problem a while ago, in the end I gave up trying to find flaws in my soldering for hours and hours. Eventually I gave up, went to a pro, and he cleaned it all up and it's now working fine smile.gif

So simply, after investing that much, it's worth paying a little more to get a proper soldering job.

did you do the pin header install or a wire? I know it comes witht he pin header but
sometimes people do silly things, I have to ask.

definately sounds like you need to grab the ole ohm meter and check for connections or lack of them!

I havent fitted as many of these as these guys, but I have fitted about 40 of them and never had
to use a dvd eject to power the chip EVER.
