a bit of an update and any help would be appreciated.  I tried a few more things all with no luck.

for all of the following i tried every one of these bios's
4981
4983
m7
m8
3935


First i tried flashing via network, no go.  it basically stalled out on the browser end and never made it to the xbox

flashbios,  on all attempts i got an "unknown flash! halting" error.  again used all of the above bios's on both cd-rw's and dvd's with 150MB dummy file

tried linux with eurasia boot disk and lower case above mentioned bios's, there i got write protected error, no idea what that was about.

then i tried flashing from a HDD with all of the above, i got the same "unknown flash! halting" error


Please if anyone has any idea what is going on it would be appreciated.
I also went over all my solder joints and they all look good.

Generally speaking that is the result of one or more poor solder connections on LPC (Wither on the motherboard or on the female header on the chip).. Look for any 'cold' csolder joints (not shiny) and reflow them, and look for any potential bad connections and then try again.

Well tonight i reflowed everything, and i mean everything.  then to be certain i had good connections i checked resistance and the legs between the bottom and top are as close to zero as you can get.  I also checked d0 and it was again what a wire should be.  What else could be wrong with this?

makes me think you are doing something wrong, because the file quoted is a dashboard not a bios.

I'm pretty sure you got the chip from me.. Send it back and I'll have a look at it for you and replace it if it is indeed defective.
