OK, I have the "EvolutionX M8_ver1.6.rar from xbins.
Question 1: It is 256K, Do I need to run "Evtool" to resize to 512K?

Question 2: What files are needed on the hard drive?

Question 3: Can I use Avalaunch as the dashboard?

I Really would like to complete this project this year! Could somebody answer the above questions!

I tried using "Evtool" to re-size the bios and then burn to cd with "filler". The machine did not recognize it or it did nothing.

What is the "exact bios" I need? Do I need to mess with the switch? What files are needed on the hd?

PLEASE?

Well, I flashed the bios using "Eurasia" and EvolutionXM8 bios. I now get the "Evo" shield but the unit hangs forever at that screen? What am I missing?

What files should be on the hard drive? I don't have the original HD that came with the unit.

With the switch in the other position I just get a blue screen is this normal?

you need a dash
and seeing as you flash the m8 bios you need to put evox on it

Sweeeeet! It is all working except for using the eject button.
Which of course, gives the "05" error. (I don't have the original eep). So there is no way to fix this
part, right?

Error 5 just means your HD is not locked. So just lock the HD using ConfigMagic and you are set.

Why??
Flashing an evox bios does not restrict the dash you can use at all. The boot order for other XBE files is already present in the bios.

every time i used the m8 bios and wanted to use avalaunch it would never work it would only see evox and ms dash

You must be naming your dash.xbe files wrong.
The boot order is
default.xbe
evoxdash.xbe
avadash.xbe
nexgen.xbe.

the common mistake people make is when they install their dash they name it avalaunch.xbe instead of avadash.xbe.
You can of course customise the standard configuration using evtool 1.09.
Avalaunch defo works on a standard M8 install. Give it a whirl.
Also remember if you put in evoxdash as well , it will boot that before the other dashboards in the list as it is higher up the boot
