Bios Flashing (white Duox 2)
« on: May 13, 2006, 10:51:00 PM »

Ok I found the Xecuter2 4981 bios, which I believe are the best for me because I DEFENITELY want the xbox live disable feature (does that work automatically, btw? so as soon as the bios are flashed, it's in place and ready to go? - the xbl disable feature that is).

BUT I don't know how to flash them. I unziped the rar file and I now have 5 files:

4981.06_256k.bin
4981.67_256k.bin
make1mb.bat
X2_4981.nfo
x2_IGR_disabled

I read the NFO and all it is is release info. They gave a link to their tutorial but the website doesn't work.

What exactly do I do, step by step, to get these bios onto my chip? and are these bios the best I can get?

Also, how do I install the dashboard after I do that? Which one should I install?

Help me out guys.

As long as you can verify you have a real duox2 just get the newest X2 bios (5035) as it is already resized to 512k which is what you need.
Just follow the tutorial on team executer's page for flashing using flashbios as that will work for your 1.3 and is the easiest.  It also has a tutorial I believe for making the proper bios disc.
Using an auto installer like slayers or AID to install your software to make it easier on you.

As for the best dashboard, that is like saying what is the best car.    I personally think a porsche is the best, as I do Avalaunch for the dashboard, but not everyone has the same taste as me.

Your Xbox version doesn't matter for the size of the Bios, the chip holds a 512kb Bios.  Sounds like for some strange reason it didn't flash, which in your case consider luck since you used the wrong size bios..You can use the 4981_06 that you are using but use XBTool to resize it to 512kb (or use the X2 5035 like Julius said)

As for flashing, the easiest way is via Network in my opinion, here is the guide:

http://www.team-xecu...shbios/http.htm

If you want to use a disk then this how to make the disk:

And this is how to use the disk:

you have to download the eurasia flashing program and use that.  If you can after loading the eurasia, switch to your bad bank before flashing so you can still have the cromwell bank and the bank with the new bios because if you don't and there is an error you will have to bad banks and that is probably not a good thing.

you boot it with the cromwell.  Then you load eurasia from the disk then before you flash the bios while the machine is on you flip to the other bank.  The program will still be running and flash the bank you are on (the one that is messed up).  To do this you have to have the box open so you can access the chip to flip the toggle but that isn't a big deal.

Ok I have the files, but I don't know how to install it. And I have no dashboard installed right now so I can't FTP into my Xbox.

How do I get the avalaunch.xbe file onto my Xbox's hard drive??

I've tried making an ISO with Quix and the Xbox says the disc cannot be read.

And one other major problem: Xbtool will not let me edit my bios file, even though it is valid and currently installed on my Xbox. When I open it it says 'Kernel cannot load' or whatever. So I also don't get how to change the bios to load Avalaunch.

Is there another way to FTP into my Xbox? I have a crossover cable and two NIC cards in my computer, I just cannot find a way to do it that doesn't involve a dashboard.

Actually, nevermind PART of that. I figured out how to launch Avalaunch from the CD. The only problem I'm having now is with the Bios. XBTool, WILL NOT let me open up my bios file. It says Kernel unsupported, so how am I supposed to change it to load up Avalaunch?

How do you get to the xecuter flash bios screen if it isnt an xecuter chip and it gives you no ip address to ftp to it?  I'm just curious because ive alwayse done http flashes for Xecuter 3 chips and would like to flash a duox2 with the Xecuter 3 bios via http flash as opposed to burning a disc.

Flashbios is not Xecuter's bios, as long as Flashbios has the correct definitions for a specific chip then it will flash it (I'm not sure it will work with everychip out there, some might hang).  But Duox2 Cromwell editions come with a working Flashbios so you flash the chip the same way you would flash an X3

If you used the X2 5035 then you need to edit the ini  file to your liking and put it on E:...If you used the 4981 bios then the latest XBTool should open it, if you are having problems then simply rename Avalaunch's xbe file (most likely called default.xbe or avalaunch.xbe) to evoxdash.xbe and then ftp into the root of C: with all the avalaunch files and it should work

I can't FTP. Every method I try comes up with an error. What I did was put the .ini file on a disc and transfer it to E: and Avalaunch loads up as default, but when it loads up the christmas background thing stay and when the menu comes up, it freezes.
