Newbie Questin For Duox2
« on: April 21, 2006, 01:54:00 PM »

I’ve been reading about DuoX 2 - Cromwell/Flash bios Edition and decide to buy one. My question is can I do anything to my hard drive (softmoded) to prep fro the chip? I read that the chip can auto detect evox. So if I set up evox with the right bios in the evo.ini file while it flash it? Oh yeah if it matters I have a 1.6a version xbox. Thanks for any and all help.

Not really too much to do until you get the chip.. just make sue you have a dashboard (like evox) on C:

That way, once you get the chip installed, you just need to flash a bios and you'll be good to go.

Well, if you leave it on E you'll need to flash a bios that is set up to look for it on E (not many are out of the box, so you'll need to manually set it up).

As for the easiest way to flash.. Network flashing via flashbios couldn't be easier smile.gif (just make sure your bios is compatible with your xbox version and 512k).

Ok maybe I'm having trouble wrapping my head around this one. When I put my dash on the C: drive where do i put my msdash? The duox2 says its easy to disable for xbl. I think you start your xbox with the dvd tray button. Thanks

MSdash stays put on C.  you just add another dashboard to C: like evox or avalaunch.

Just spend the time waiting for your chip obtaining a copy of Slayers or AID 3 and pick the dash from the menu system and let it do the install work for you.
You boot hacked dash from the power button and MS dash from the eject.
Both dashes are on C

Wrong. If you flash a 256k bios to a duox2 with flashbios it will not run and you'll need to switch banks or hotswap to reflash. Make sure your bios is 512k. (Flashing with evox, etc will resize.. but flashbios does NOT).

If you don't have a clue what you are talking about, please don't give advice.  Please don't give others advice to cause them to harm their own box.

No need to, though I'd recommend doing so after you install the chip smile.gif

Sorry for all the questions! But what bios would you suggest appleguru? Also some of the tut I read seem to imply to flash 2 copy's of a 256 bios on to the chip. is this right? or am I not understanding this? Also if you could point me to some reliable tut's that would be cool. Thanks everyone.

The bios you need to flash to the chip has to be 512K.
Depending on the bios you decide on you can resize with XBTool, EVTool etc or if you decide on the new X2 bios type its likely to be 512k when you get it.
Whatever you do ignore the advice of mtimmy its wrong and will cause  a misflash
