Duox White Chip Flashbios Won't Boot 1.6
« on: April 06, 2006, 09:25:00 PM »

Not an expert on the DuoX white becuase I usually got the blue ones and never had a problem.  I have the white one here and I can boot to cromwell 2.32 (I think that is correct) but if I try to boot to the other bank all I get is a black screen.  The box I am on is a 1.6 box and I read there were issues booting the chip on one of these but that if you try 20 or so times it will boot.  After about 80 tries i figured I should give up.

I pulled out another chip I have (trusty smartxx I have laying around) and fired the box up into EvoX.  I then swapped the chip and tried to flash.  Alas it says flash not writable.  I am sure I just have to add something to the EvoX.ini to get it to flash this way but I was wondering......how the hell do I get this to work?

Nevermind I figured it out.

If I am going to do the swap I need to connect the D0 to the DuoX or it will give me the flash not writeable error.  I assumed since the LED was flashing that I was fine but I guess it needs to be grounded to D0 in order to actually work

Should not need the D0 on the duo connecting at all. I have done loads. Ground Xbox D0 and connect BT to pin 9 (G) on the chip. thats it.

let me go into detail of my process that failed.  I booted the xbox with the smart xx installed.  D0 was connected to the smartxx.  I pulled it off the board and slid a DuoX onto the pin header.  D0 was still connected to the smartxx and BT wasn't connected at all since it is not needed for the smartxx.

After I did the swap I would get a message flash not writeable.  When I did the exact same thing except this time I disconnected D0 from the SmartXX and connected it to the DuoX that was on the pinheader it worked like a champ.

I think what you were saying was to ground D0 somewhere permanently and it would work as well but I just connected it to the DuoX and flashed.  What a pain in the arse.

I see what you did now.
yes the usual procedure is to unsolder D0 from the chip and solder it to a ground point during the hotswap.
This saves any wire being connected to the chip in the hotswap.
