Dashboard Search Order Of Duox 2 Gs
« on: April 03, 2006, 12:09:00 PM »

Howdy all,

I have a 1.0 box running the new DuoX 2 GS chip with the shipped Executer 2 BIOS on bank 0 selected.

I was wondering how I could set the thing up to boot a custom dashboard (I really prefer Unleash X) when I press the power button to turn the chip on, and boot the default MS Dash when I boot up with the eject button to load the MS BIOS.

I read somewhere that this chip's BIOS searches for dashboards in a certain order but I could not find that article.

I think this would be possible because when I installed the chip I didn't realize that the Slayer's disk I used installed Evox when I prepared the drive.  When I locked the drive it would boot to Slayer's custom Evox dash when I pressed the power button and UnleashX when I booted with the eject button.

Is setting up the MS Dash for the eject button boot and UnleashX for the power button boot doable?

Many thanks,

Hoyt

just load up a bios editing tool like x2ool, etc and they will show you the exact boot order, then just edit it however you like and resave it.

Thanks a lot!

I looked at that tool but can't seem to see where it says use one dash when you press the power button and another when you press the eject button.  Some of my auto installers do this, I just don't know HOW they do it.  Is there a config file where that is listed somewhere?

You should get normal retail bios boot with the eject button so yes this will give you MS dash.
You can also just install the unleashX as your dash using AID 3 and it will work straight off, using the power button
order should be
default.xbe
evoxdash.xbe
avadash.xbe
mxmdash.xbe
You can use whatever dash you like by just making sure to rename the xbe file to evoxdash.xbe.

I prefer to edit the bios. This way I know what the xbe files are. I don't like having say, evoxdash.xbe, but it loading say UnleashX.... I see all these xbes and don't know what they really do...eg is xboxdash.xbe the ms dash or what...? Editing the names in the bios fixes this.

Better yet, I prefer ind-bios 5003, since you can just edit the cfg file on c: to change your boot order anytime you like, and not need to reflash the bios. You can even put them in subdirectories to keep the root nice and clean.
