Nope, 99% it will be your soldering that is the issue.  As long as you followed a guide so that you have your D0 in the right place, then it will be your soldering that is causing the fragging.

what is the symptom if D0 isn't connected at all?

If the D0 is not connected then it wont try to boot the chip and it won't frag. It is your lpc soldering causing you the problem, or possibly the female pinheader soldering.

So... I guess I'm being humbled this evening.

Removed the LPC female port completely, desoldered the necessary holes again, cleaned up the surface until it looked like the hood of a BMW.

Replanted the LPC and soldered it again.

Soldered the BT back in place

Soldered the D0 back in place

now... no LED on the chip and xbox boots into normal mode.

I've tried resoldering the D0 a few times, with no luck...

could I have a crappy chip? has anyone else gotten funky versions of this chip? (I have the whie cromwell version)

any help would be greatly appreciated.... if I need to take some pictures, let me know OR if anyone has pictures of their working mod of this chip, I'd love to take a look.
