New Modchip: DuoX 2 GS-- Posted by XanTium on March 26 11:24 EST
You might have noticed that Team Omega replaced the DuoX 2 (a very popular low-budget (15.49usd) modchip for the Xbox - cheap, but stable & good build quality) by the DuoX 2 GS. No feature changes here (afaik), it seems mostly an optimization of the PCB and controller chip. Most noticeable optimization is that the small 3rd IC was removed (check DuoX 2 pictures if you want to compare).
Just like the original DuoX 2 the chip comes in 2 versions, the white one is pre-flashed with a legal cromwell-based flashbios, the blue one comes pre-flashed with modified MS bioses.
The package comes with a LPC-rebuild PCB for Xbox v1.6x and a (not preinstalled) headerpin.
Here are some high-res quality pictures from a sample we got from divineo.cn. Always buy from official resellers to avoid low-quality clones.

So what does this chip is good in... It doesn't have more feature and even if they removed a IC chip in it it's still 50 cent more to pay than the old DuoX2 chips... Strange.

It will not have to. that link is to the latest named generation spiderchip. It $9 more expensive, its solderless (The Duo is not) it will have no support and it most likely will not work very well.
Team Omega are hardly going to be worried about that chip when they already have a strong customer base using a reliable chip.

Its not an error. The blue ones have always shipped with a hacked bios on each bank. Many of the Aladdins have also.
Not sure how they get round the legal side of things.

The original spiderchip was rather lame. I was never able to line one up correctly and many people had to use the popsicle method (or lego method) to keep them down.
Reusing the EXACT same design on these hyperX chips means we'll be hearing about alignment issues (again).

HyperX will definitely not take a chunk out of team omega's sales.

Here's the current HyperX thread if you wanna take a look. Not worth your time though: Click Me. DuoX2's have a proven track record of stability and support... completely opposite to that of team spider (spiderchip, spider GX, now hyperX). They keep renaming their chip in hopes of getting away from their bad reputation.

You know, it figures that this is just introduced to the community.. I JUST got my DuoX2 - Cromwell Edition in the mail today.. I know it isn't even a big difference, but it's just weird. BTW, i'm sure i'm not the only person to notice this but, pictures make EVERYTHING look bigger. I looked @ the pictures and thought to myself "this soldering job should be a slice of cake." I got the chip in the mail and just about hugged it because it was like miniature and cute! (i'm a guy -- lol) anyway, back to topic. I haven't installed it yet, but i'm sure the GS is just as good as the regular DuoX2.

Thought of GS meaning: GOOD S***!!!!!

I think I'll wait on these.  The original Duox2 and the DuoSE (for PS2 ) are great chips, I have installed hundreds of them.  Then they released the Duo GT for the PS2 replacing the DuoSE and so far buggy with some issues, reliability dropped on the new Duo GT chips. Now I have to rely on more expensive chips for PS2.  Hopefully it won't be the same with these GS chips but I'm not about to buy them in bulk yet.
