Duox2 Gs?

Was just on Team Omega's Site and I see "Duox2 GS" as replacing the "Duox2" lineup.. anyone know what the difference is or if it's just a name change?

The GS is missing the 8pin IC and a transistor.  Cost reductions?

Im interested... What did the 8-pin SOIC do? It looks like an EEPROM but Im too lazy to take the black mask off the chip.

I believe the surface of this chip is ground down a little to remove the markings.  I have never been able to find a stamping or identification mark on them.

They seem to have switched over a week or so ago(right when the duo q came out). The new chip lists all the same features as the original duox2. I should have a bunch in, in about a week, I'll report on any findings and upload some pictures once I get them in.

I mentioned earlier in this thread that they might have designed the GS as a cost reduction move but I think it is for something else.  They may be doing this as a security upgrade.  There are alot of clones around and Team Omega even warns of them on their site.  So maybe these new versions will be more difficult to clone.

Also, if u lift a trace, it'll be harder to grab the other end. Before, the alt d0 and BT point where on that 8 pin IC, now they're on that 32pin or whatever chip. Not a problem for me though, i've never lifted a trace.

But yeah i think its just price reduction or suttin to make it look like they're still around, but security from clones is also an idea
