New Hdd For Duo X2 Lite
« on: February 28, 2006, 07:19:00 AM »

I resently had my xbox (dont know what version but contains a nvidia chip?) chipped with a Duo X2 Lite mod chip.  I want to install a new large HDD, preferably over 120g.  What are the procedures for this?

Is it posible just to install the HDD and use a AID disk to do the rest?  Or will the bios need flashed before I can do this?

Also, what size of HDD can a Duo X2 Lite Xbox take?

All help will be greatly appreciated.

As long as you have an up to date (well at least somewhat recent) bios, you can install up to 500GB.  Being that huge sizes are expensive, I would not recommend anything over 320gb as the price sharply increases after that.  I myself have a 200Gb installed with my DuoX2.
Yes, AID or slayers, can prep the HD for the Xbox.  Just remember to first unlock the stock hard drive if you plan on using that down the road in something else.  And also lock the new HD is you plan on playing Xbox live.

Thankyou for your reply Julius Pleaser

I have read some articles that you need to ftp the eeprom from a PC to the new HDD.  Whats all that about?

I dont know what bios is on the DuoX2 Lite.  I am assuming that it is the standard bios that it came with.  Do you know if the standard bios would support a 200GB hdd?  If not, what bios would support the Duo X2 Lite and a 200GB hdd and how do I flash it?

Sorry for sounding like the complete novice that I am but after I have fitted the new blank hdd.  What do I do next?  Do I need to load up the AID disk from the Evo bios?  What do I do after that?

I dont know if I am trying to tell myself that it is alot more complicated than it actually is!!

What you should do is read up on the tutorial avilable on the net "use the powers of google", and then if you have specific questions just ask.  People learn a lot more, and don't need to ask the same questions over and over, if they learn for themselves rather than having the info just given to them.

You are asking me what BIOS you have on your mod chip..... how would I know, it is your chip.  Even if it is an old bios, it will allow up to 137GB so it is not like the new HD won't work.

Just load up AID
-Unlock old HD using config magic (on the disc)
-replace HD
-format new HD, lock HD(config magic), install MS dash, install a hacked dash, and install whatever apps you want (all on disc)
-It is that simple.

I was trying to find out what BIOS my Duo X2 Lite chip is currently flashed with.  I went into settings in the Evo dash and the BIOS is unknown.  I also checked through XBMC and load of other tools but the BIOS is still unknown.  The settings display the modchip as AM29F040B which I presume is correct.

The reason I need to know what BIOS is currently on the chip is because I plan to instal a large hdd and I need to know if I will be required to Flash the BIOS in order to do this.

Can anybody help......Please!!

Hi Julius Pleaser

I understand what you are saying but it can sometimes be very difficult to get specific answers for specific questions using google.  When you are such a novice like myself, you do need it spelt out or you!!

I have one more question regarding this topic.  Your instructions above state:

Just load up AID
-Unlock old HD using config magic (on the disc)
-replace HD
-format new HD, lock HD(config magic), install MS dash, install a hacked dash, and install whatever apps you want (all on disc)
-It is that simple.

Would I presume that you replace the HD whilst the Xbox is powered on and AID is loaded up?

The reason I ask is that I attempted to load up the AID disk without the HD plugged in last night and only managed to get an error 7.  I presume that if I installed a new blank HD and then powered up the Xbox with the AID disk, I would just get another error of some kind.

I hail Pleaser for your superior knowlege!!

Unlock your old hard disk.
Switch off the Xbox.
Install the new hard disk.
Power on the Xbox with the AID disk in the drive so that it boots up from the AID disk (you will obviously need to have your chip enabled for this to work). AID will be happy to boot up with a completely blank hard disk.
Prepare your new hard disk with AID!

Never assume to switch HD's with the power on.  That doesn't just go for Xbox's.  When dealing with PC components in general, the only acceptable part to be hot-swapping (doing while power is on) is USB, everything else should have the power off.  Switching HD's in an Xbox would be no different and you should follow the same rules.

Cheers for the advice guys.

When loading from modded, the loading screen displays a blue / yellow Xbox logo and there is an EvoX logo in the top left hand corner of the screen.  Is this evidence of a M8+.16 bios?

Yes, that is exactly what the screen tells you.

Now just install your hacked dash, MS dash, and Apps, and your are all set.  And don't forget to Lock the new HD if you want to play Xbox live.

Ok I am having an issue with this.  I installed the duo lite.  Burned the AID disk loaded evo x and unleashx on my stock drive.  Backed up my eeprom.  Unlocked the drive.  Now the disk doesn't boot when I turn on the xbox anymore.  It still says AID on the bottom so it sees the disk it just doesn't load it.  Once the dash is open I can run the disk from there and it works fine.  I am trying to install a new drive and all I can get is error 7 because the disk won't load anymore on boot.  Anyone know what I can try.

Thanks
Bryant
