Duox2 White, Bios Issue, 1.6
« on: February 03, 2006, 07:03:00 AM »

eurasia doesn't work on v1.6 consoles?  didn't know that (i've always used flashbios smile.gif )

i guess one way is to get a v1.0-1.5 xbox and install the duox2 on that one and boot via bank1
when u flash the 512kb bios (v1.6 compatible) make sure you flip the switch to bank2 so u can use that bank.
while you're at it, get flashbios and flash bank1 with it using the older version xbox.
when both banks are flashed, put it back into your v1.6

this way if you ever mess up bank2 with another bios in the future, you'll still have bank1 (now flashbios) to fall back to

Since it probably laid the 256k bios down and that's all it needs to boot try accessing it with the 3 wire trick if you're up for some sport. One address line already has a switch on it on the doux. The address line next to it needs another switch to access all 4 banks. You'll need to cut a trace on the doux pcb so the xbox side no longer ties to that line but your new switch does. By using ground and power from the factory switch you'll have  4 banks.

If your SmartXX is installed with a pinheader you can hotswap your DuoX2 into your other chipped console and reflash it that way..

Just do a hot swap to reflash it.  No you see why it is good practice to boot from the linux bios that works for your system, then flash the OTHER bank, so you can always recover easily if you F-up.

Of course I can't boot from bank 1 becasue this is a 1.6 xbox.

Bank 0 (I presume you mean bank 0 as bank 1 is flashbios which is messed up now)and Cromwell works fine on the 1.6.
If your does not work after a bad flash look at the possibility you have a clone.
Misflashing bank 1 on a genuine DuoX 2 white will not corrupt bank 0 and I can confirm on the whites bank 0 and 1.6 work

Your DuoX2 White chip should have gold solder pads and the word Duo X2 should also be written in gold. Otherwise you have a troublesome clone that will need hotswapping to fix.

Not all the white ones will have DuoX2 written in gold on them.  Mine don't and I know they are not clones as I can run bios 5035 perfectly.  The main thing to look for is the pads being gold and the flashrom chip (or whatever it is) is labelled with a make that Team Omega actually uses

SoI'm in the middle of this hot swap flashing process, and I've desoldered the d0 wire from the smartxx chip, and have soldered it to ground on the xbox chasis.  and I've wired BT to point G on the duox.  Then I load Evox 's flashing utility, and just as I'm about to hit "A" to write, I pull out the smartxx chip, everything is fine.  then I insert the duox2 and poof, the screen goes black, and the hard drive spins down, but the xbox stays powered on.

is there anything else I should be doing?

What is the significance of having the d0 wire connected to ground?  Is it just to make it easier to swap chips?

When the D0 connection on the motherboard is grounded, the Xbox boots from the LPC. This is necessary for all LPC modchips. You connect motherboard D0 to ground, so that when you pull the modchip off the pinheader, D0 on the motherboard remains grounded.

Your hotswap method sounds fine. I'm not sure why you'd experience that behaviour, someone else may know.

Just an update, I've solved my problems.  Successfully flashed FlashBIOS and Evox m8, and the system is booting correctly now smile.gif

Basically, I hot swapped the Duox with the Smartxx.  I had the d0 connected to ground, and had G connected to BT on the duox.

I have the smartxx installed with a male pinheader, and the duox had a male pinheader already installed.  Since male doesn't fit male.  I used a floppy drive cable.  Since the cable's pinouts are not 1 for 1, that's what lead me to the xbox acting wierd when I tried to hot swap.

So I hacked up the floppy cable and soldered bare wires to the bottom of the motherboard to the pinheader pins.  then when I went to hot swap, itworked.....to my surprise smile.gif

Thank you very much everybody for the help and suggestions.
