Duo2 Fashing Help
« Reply #15 on: January 06, 2006, 03:35:00 AM »

I can get some pics but digicam can't get any good close up pics.

Never noticed about different switch (but they might have just changed supplier), everything else about chip seems ok, can't see anything to lead towards it being a clone.

I have tried 256K BIOS but no luck.

If chip is a clone, can I still use it and how would I find out the type and add to INI?

I have tried switching banks before flashing but no luck there.

All help is being appreciated guys.

Your LPC looks good from what I could make out in the pictures.  I hate to say it but trying another chip you know that is working may be your best option.  You already tried to flash it using the HTTP method and it failed as it started to initialize.  If you dont have an extra chip, try a Sunday chip from Hippo.  Hes the designer and sells them in the US.  His support is rock solid.

If the chip boots reliably 10 times in a row and you get that each time it's a bum chip that get's confused between flash core space and register space. I make this assumption because 0x09 and 0x00 are the first two bytes you'll find at 0x ff00 000 and   0x ff00 0001 for most bios.

If the chip ever mis-boots there is a bad connection that wont allow verification of the SDPC during flash.

Bummer!

Unfortunatly don't know anyone with a DuoX2 let alone a modded xbox.
Is it worth getting trying the blue chip?

Sunday Chip?

It's never mis booted

I'm going to say go for the Sunday chip from Hippo.  The link is in his sig.  I've used eight of his chips in all the various version xboxes, and they all perform flawlessly.

I live in the UK though

Is it worth getting a more pricier chip?

Hi Guys,

I have never seen a blue switch on any duox2 modchip clone or original so i am very suspicious of it being an original. But even if it is a clone thats not your problem. The error you are getting tells me that it's not installed correctly. Please re-flow each and every solder point on the bottom of the lpc and the top of the duox2 modchip. It's not a clone issue , it's a no connection issue !

You can get a sunday chip from hippo or get anoher duox2 , it doesn't matter which for if the new chip works then your old duox2 white was faulty. If the new one doesn't work then you still need to fix your lpc !

Well, in my slighty stressed mode today I think I broke chip but not too bothered as weren't working.

Is the Aladdin chip any good or am I just being silly going for cheap chips?
The xbox will mainly replace the PC's function of video and audio player and obviously play stored games off HD.
Don't need fancy X3 LCD's etc

Stay away from aladdins as they have issues booting on V1.6 consoles. No you dont need to stay away from cheap chips i have installed heaps of duox2's and they all work fine ! You could have the same problem with a X3 if the install is to blame !

Get a blue duox2 or a sunday chip and see if it works. These cheap chips work fantastic when installed and flashed correctly.

Excellent, anyone recommend a reliable UK place to buy a blue DuoX2, don't fancy using same place again.  Would the site that sold me the chip know it's a clone?

If you live in the UK. I will hotswap your chip and flash it for you. All it will cost is the stamped addressed jiffy bag to get it back to you.

Cheers chancer!
Brought chip into work due to it not working, appears that during my resoldering I've knocked a pin on the little square chip so it's being repaired.
I will test again tonight see if it's still alive, will try flash few times more, if no luck will take you up on that Chancer

As Dr Frankenstein once said

"It's alive"

Chip had solder bridges so lovely lady at work removed xlink chip I think it was and resoldered on (did have one more but she's showed me how to solve it)

Also, the guys at work who to the chip re-programming had a look and said the chip is right one specified from what they see of them (which is loads), so doesn't appear to be a clone but if it was and having trouble flashing they can identify chip and flash with the progrmmer machine.

But gladly I've managed to flash with the 512K x2.4981.06.bin and am now running Slayers EvoX

Plan to mess about with that but will probably end up posting about something else, huge thanks for all the help and offers, hope to return the favour.
