Duo2 Fashing Help
« on: January 03, 2006, 03:16:00 PM »

Right, firstly I have read s much of this site but I think I've reached overload.

I have a DuoX2 white installed and each bank looks fine (Cromwell and Flash 3.0.3)

What now?
Sounds like a proper noob question but I'm lost!

I have Slayers ready but firstly I need some help with what order to be doing things.

1) Do I now need to flash BIOS? If so, which bank, with what and how?
I have tried flashing in Flash 3.0.3 but I keep getting "unknown flash! Halting" but I'm sure I'm using proper   flash file

2) Do I just burn Slayers to a DVD (is DVD+R and +RW ok) and boot then I use menu to install features?

3) Whats the use of having 2 BIOS banks?

Cheers for the help!

I've tried that link before and it's been so helpful but I keep getting this screen

IPB Image

which is
QUOTE
This is what happens if your X3 has its flash protection enabled. You wont
be able to update anything at this stage. You need to make sure the flash
protection is set to off on the mod and on the switch if you have it connected.
You will need to start over from the beginning.

Is this right?
If so how do I unprotect?

burning a bios disc sux, if you have a router and a cable just select network flash and do it like that, way easier then screwing with trying to find medial your xbox will read well. in fact in my opinion a good enough reason to get dsl LOL, just so you can have high speed and a router to get to your xbox mods

I'm using a 512K BIOS as stated in the guide.

I do consider myself to know enough because I have been reading site for over a month but this has just thrown me

Hello there ...

Does your duox2 have gold BT and D0 pads ? if not then it's a clone chip that has been poorly created. The idiots that made it did not flash it with a version of flashbios that can flash the included flashrom.

To flash a duox2 clone you will have to use CROMWELL and it doesn't have http flashing so you will have to use discs.

HackDaBox !

PS check out my website for loads of duox2 info !

Cheers HackDaBox

I can't check chip as it's now soldered but using the info on your site I've looked at the AMD chip and can see a small AMD symbol, AMD and AM29F080B, there's other numbers but harder to make out.

I've used the Eurasia Generic Pro Flash Disc 1.2 which works.........but when it asks for a BIOS I put my BIOS CD in but then it displays the following

UNKNOWN DEVICE red only manf=0xFF, dev=0xFF
Try adding device ID to raincoat.cfg

Any other boot CD I make isn't working!

Is there a flash protect on the chip?

Sounds like your chip is a real one.  The two banks are nice to have, you switch to the other bank just before you flash so you can keep your current bank for a backup.  Honestly if you can hook the xbox up to a DHCP router and http flash from the PC it you would save yourself the headaches.  Also I assume your trying to flash it with a X2 bios resized to 512k if its a version 1.0-1.5 box.

Only with the Flash 3.0.3 on bank 1

It displays the IP address so I input to PC and I get the flash screen, I locate the BIOS I want to use but I still get this screen
IPB Image
(but with 512K)

Not sure about doing HTTP flasing on cromwell as when I select the Network flash option I starts looking for DCHP then nothing happens.

I have only ever had the Eurasia CD boot but get an "error" as stated in previous post.

Why won;t it work!!!

Just found this
http://www.duomodchi...ish/install.htm

QUOTE
What do I have to add to evox.ini?
- The latest version of EvolutionX should already contain the relevant information.

ie.
0x01d5,"AMD - Am29F080B",0x100000
0x04d5,"FUJITSU - MBM29F080A",0x100000
0xadd5," HYUNDAI - HY29F080",0x100000

In a previous post I stated the Eurasia says UNKNOWN DEVICE, adding this to something would help??

You need to double check your install. You see when it says manf=0xFF, dev=0xFF then it's reading nuthing at all !

You may have some dodgy soldered connections. Just re-heat each of the connections on the male pinheader and the female pin header thats soldered onto the duox2.

Re-test the flashing again after re-soldering. If it still doesn't work then please post some pics if you can !

I have resoldered all connections

FlashBios on startup shows manf=9xFF, dev=0xFF
But as stated when boot with Eurasia when it tries to flash i get UNKNOWN DEVICE red only manf=9xFF, dev=0xFF, Try adding device ID to raincoat.cfg

I noticed with Eurasia that the AMD AM29F080B is stated in the list of chips to flash which is on my chip so it should work

I have a smasung DVD andtried booting with Eurasia on a Smasung CD-R which works, BIOS cd's are detected in Flash 3.0.3 and Eurasia but still gettingthe problems stated.

Here's a bunch of pics showing the install and pin header
Pics
I removed a pin near label "LPC DEBUG" and the 3 on the chip header.

By the pictures you provided I think you may have a clone chip.  I have never seen the switch blue before and usually the writing on the PCB is gold not black.  A few words of advice, you may want to use a 26-30gauge wire for the install.  The wire your using is way to thick.

Also taking a good picture of the lpc from the bottom of the board this will shed some light on possible LPC connection problems.

If its a clone ask Hack about flashing them, I think you need to use a 256k bios and add a flash type to the .ini for the chip.  You should try to see if the smaller AMD bios writing looks like it was added in a clever way.  Most of the clones try to sand the surface down, repaint it black and then add the AMD in white.
