Ok, just tried again and the box has stopped rebooting on shut down, on looking inside noticed the wire connected to the eject button has been bent down and is bare so i thing it was possibly shorting on the dvd casing causing the reboot? Befor I go any further I was wondering if I need to flash the bios or something to get it to work? Did I tell you that i'm very new to this and probably dont yet understand all this flashing etc :-(. There seems to be lots of talk about FRAGing and am I correct in understanding that these means a green and red light will flash on boot up if there is a problem? I only get a green flash and then the normal xbox screen so does this mean I dont have a fault? Sorry to be such hard work.

This chip uses the power button to boot enabled and the eject if the chip is to be off so you have that bit wrong somewhere.
I would redo the install from scratch. Don't remove the rebuild board just procede through the stages adding solder or trimiing wires where needed. Then try the correct boot options and report back in here what happens

Chancer,

Busy week and just now followed your instructions, Still nothing. The box just works as normal as if I hadnt done anything? If It was just a solder point would I get some sort of indication of it at least being there.
Where to go now? fault finding with multimeter? remove rebuild board? Suggestions most welcome.

The chip you have is the lite chip so the next move is run a wire from Xbox D0 to a ground point on the motherboard this forces boot from the LPC.
If the normal MS bios boots up and you don't see the evox shield in the top corner at boot then the D0 is the problem.

Chancer,

Soldered a wire from the D0 to ground and then tried it. On powering up, the machine started and switched off twice then started again with red and green flashing light, nothing appeared on the screen? Exactley the same when booting from eject button. Also the tray does not open when ejecting?

The problem now is centered round the LPC. Double check all the connections and soldering round the LPC with a goood magnifier.
D0 is working as its forcing boot from the chip. This will not do any harm to the MS bios side which will boot as normal once grounded D0 is removed.

After my last post I read through some of the other posts regarding "frag"ing and I notice you advised people to check the LPC so thats what I did, and it then booted straight away.

Now its up and running should I leave the wire connected from the D0 to ground or remove it?

Now I'm learning a little about these things I fancy experimenting a little, maybe something with the dashboard etc, any suggestions?

Now the chip works you can put D0 back on the chip if you like. Its not necessary unless you want to use live or have the original MS dash.
I would get hold of AID2.11 and install one of the dashboards from it.
If you do a search on google etc this should turn up pplaces to obtain the autoinstaller.

Ok, I decided to check the D0 because most of these posts keep comiong back to this, although all looked ok I decided to replace the wire and hey presto everthings great again. If in doubt check your D0!!

And so the saga goes on.

Machine has been ok more or less over the lst few weeks, sometimes it would frag and somtimes it would boot straight to the evo screen. This week however it has stopped booting to the evo screen and just frags with a blank screen? One other thing, when it was working if the machine was moved when switched off it would boot up without the power button being pressed? Dont know why this would happen, surely once soldered nothing moves?
What would cause the box to sometimes boot and then sometimes frag?
Not sure where to go now, having resoldered the LPC nad "D0" a few times I'm begining to make a mess. Perhaps trying to remove the rebuild board and using wires might be the answer? Or just go over the D0 an plc again
Might even have to get another box that is already chipped, although this would be a last resort but the box is no good to my son at the moment.
Dont know if it makes any difference but I have got a cable from the D0 on the chip through the board and onto the D0 on the rebuild board, have then got a wire from the D0 on the rebuild board to ground forcing it to boot to Evo, If I remove the wire to ground will the box boot to MS?

Hope one of you seasoned experts can advise where to go from here.

You only need the wire from the chip D0 to the rebuild D0. Taking the other grounded D0 off will allow retail boot again.
I still feel this LPC related and the fault may be hidden by the rebuild board
