Ok here is my situation. I've got my computer connected to my xbox with a crossover cable. I have two of these one is homemade one is store bought. Both my pc and my xbox recognize that there is a connection. But when I try to ftp it won't connect. on Flashfxp I got an error that said "unable to route to host" and in WS_Ftp it just says "connection failed". I've read the other posts and tutorials around here and I can't figure it out for the life of me. If this helps any it used to work before I re formatted my computer. I reinstalled all the hardware on my pc with latest drivers so everything should be working right. I've lost hope for putting more files on my xbox now. If anyone can help i would be eternally grateful.

Hey, make sure you put ur xbox network settings to static ip.  I had the same problem until I found out the static ip was turned off.   I hope this helps.

Like stated above, you get this message when you have and IP problem. Something is not sonfigured correctly. Also, turning off any firewall on the PC might help. (or you could just open port 21)

Thanks for the reply! Anyway my xbox has a static IP and so does my pc so how can i chech if port 21 is open. If it ins't how is it that i open it? thanks a lot for any help!

don't worry about port 21 right now.  post an ipconfig /all from your pc and the network section of your evox.ini (if  you're using evox).
also ping localhost
and ping 127.0.0.1 and post results of those too.

Look at this thread I was helping someone on a similiar situation.  Follow the instructions I laid out for checking your Evox.ini, your IP addy of your comp, pinging your xbox, etc.  After you do that, check to see if you can FTP.  If not, post the results of the above to the forum here, we can get it sorted out.

Since your computers IP is 192.168.0.3, make your XBox look at it as its default gateway.  

After you do that, ping 192.168.0.2 from your computer.  Do you get a reply?

Defualt gateway on the Xbox won't make a difference in this sittuation. It would make a difference if he was trying to connect to another device on a different subnet from the Xbox. But, both devices, Xbox and PC, are both on the same subnet.

Check the duplex settings for the NIC on the PC. If it set to Auto Sense, then force a duplex mode. If it has a forced duplex, set it to auto sense. Change it from whatever it is and see if that helps.

how many nics are in this pc? is this one going to the xbox the only one?  you have any firewall software running, even the default winxp one?

just make the gateway on your xbox same as you pc ip then you should be fine

ok here is what i've tried.

Changing the default gateway to match my ip did nothing, no firewall is on (not even the default winxp one) and i also switched the duplex settings from auto to 100 and neither worked  I guess i'm starting to get desperate. I also tried to ping my xbox from the command line and it said unable to connect so  i don't know if that helps any but hey. anyway sorry for the delayed post.

Try changing your subnet to 2.xxx or 100.xxx    eg: 192.168.2.10  

With a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 you want to have a 192.168.something.xxx

Just make sure they are on the same subnet.   With a 192.168.0  configuration you would want a subnet mask of 255.255.0.0

^^that's just wrong.

leave your subnet and IP's alone and also leave the gateway's blank.  post an ipconfig from your computer.... go to your command prompt where you try pinging but instead type ipconfig /all and paste the results here.  to copy the stuff that is displayed right click on the title bar and go to edit -> mark then copy everything and hit enter.  then you can paste it all in here.   Also please start double checking your hardware.  verify you have a crossover cable if you are going from pc direct to xbox or verify link lights on a hub if you are using one, etc.  Maybe read through my guide and see if it helps you realize something you are doing wrong.
