Duox2 Modchip Not Working
« on: August 23, 2005, 10:41:00 PM »

Ok this is my second post, I posted this is the wrong section at first. My xbox has recently been modded, and it was all done according to the diagram by an experienced technician. He has found a problem with the modded xboxs from this shipment of mod chips that the xbox will turn on first time perfectly, but if turned off and turned on again, it will start up for 2 seconds, not showing anything on the screen, it will start up again like that, and then it will show the red light constantly. The only way to remedy this problem is to unplug the xbox from power, wait more than 10 minutes, and then plug it in and start it up.

I do not know if this problem has to do with the first one, but copying games sometimes causes the xbox to freeze on the loading screen, as well as when loading games... I have not yet tried loading the games using flashfxp and a crossover cable, so maybe this is the fault. Oh and all software has been loaded correctly onto the xbox.

Not enough info.
Box version? Is this a 1.6B by any strange chance? DuoX type (Wh/Bl/Lite)? Does it do with the original bios loaded? What hacked bios are you running?

Ok sorry, I know the box is 1.5 or lower, im pretty sure it is 1.2

The chip is the blue duox2.

I think the bios is evolutionx

When i boot as the original bios, it comes up with an error message.

If its a lite, it has m8_1.6 preflashed, so you can't use it.  But if you are getting an error, the bios is fine.  Whats the error code in the top left?

I had the same problem when installing a white DuoX2 into the second xbox I did it in. I reflowed all the soldier points BUT I'm pretty sure it was the D0 point that was weak. Check it.

If you have a blue DuoX2 then you should be on bank 0 which is the X2 bios.
Again its not enough to say you get an error message.
what is the number of the error.

There is an 05 in the top left corner... I do not know how long it takes to leave it unplugged before i can plug it in and it will boot, but when i first got it modded, it took about 10-30mins unplugged, and when i plugged it back it it would work properly. Now it only seems to work when i leave it unplugged for half the day. Also i have found that i used to be able to play the games i previously copied (Splinter cell CT and DOA ultimate) (dont judge me by my choice of games plz lol), the first time i tried to copy a game, it froze at the loading screen. After that the games copied well. I didnt use flashfxp to do it properly, i just used the tool on the chip to copy to the hard drive. Oh that reminds me, i also have a 120gb hdd installed now, i dont think that has any relevance because it is very new, but i might run diagnostics just in case, although the technician has found all 3 other xboxes he modded have the same problem, and i do not know their hdd situation. Back to the games, for the first day i copied them they worked like a dream when i would manage to get the xbox to start up, but a few days ago it started freezing on the loading screen. I have tried many utilities on the xbox now, including changing the dashboard but it will always freeze on the loading screen. Thank you for your ideas, i will have a look at the soldering on monday. I also noted that some people with an 'aladdin' chip or something seem to have the same problem. Just a note. Thank you.

ok error 05 is HDD not locked.  you got a 120gig HDD in there, what's happening is when u boot into a retail BIOS (modchip off) it's detecting that HDD and giving that error.  You gotta boot into a non-retail BIOS (evolutionx or xecetur for example) and use a program like ConfigMagic , or the newest Evolution-X dashboard to Lock Harddisk that way retail BIOS won't give you the 05 nag.

as far as loading up EvoX M8_1.6 BIOS on a non 1.6 console, the .NFO says it won't work.  can anyone confirm that a M8+ 1.6 BIOS file will work on a non 1.6 console?

Ok thanks alot, that fixes the original bios problem, but i believe the non booting from the mod chip has something to do with the power supply and the mod chip, maybe it would be better if there was some way to drain the energy out of the power supply before it turns on so there is no excess. I read somewhere that someone fixed a similar problem by earthing BT. I am not an electrician and do not know what kind of effect or damage this will do, so i am not tryin it until i talk to my technician friend or i get an all clear from someone here. I just booted it successfully and loaded a game... it seems intermittant, i have the evolutionx dashboard, not sure what version, would the config tool just be on menu or will i have to boot from the cd?

if it's intermittent like that (one time it boots, and one time it doesn't boot) it may be just a soldering connection that isn't making a strong bond.

recheck your wiring especially at the ends, give them a gentle tug and just softly sway the wires to see if it feels like it's going to break off or if it's good.

Yes Evox M8_1.6 bios will boot on any model BUT it is not safe and can cause damage if used for a long period of time. It is safe to boot this bios and then reflash with a safer one.
