Somehow Bios Failed To Write, Now Frag
« on: August 18, 2005, 11:58:00 PM »

Ok I successfully installed a duox2 cromwell in a 1.0 via wires, it worked fine, but when I went to flash, it failed half way thru and now it frags on either bank.  What are my options at this point?

Thanks

EDIT:  Is there anyway I can force it to boot off half the chip?  I know the first half flashed, but for some reason bank 0 isn't booting (frag).  Is there anything I can do to force the first half other than the chip?

Are you using the stock xbox cables ? try both banks with stock cables. If it won't boot you will have to hotswap to fix this chip. If it's a clone and you tried to flash it with X2 503X it may now be dead !

Check my website www.HackDaBox.com to see if you have a clone or not.

Here is my Hotswap tutorial

The Duox2 has a 1MB FLashrom, the switch devides into 2 512kb banks (you can't flash it for 1MB).  So if none of the banks are booting then you will need to hotflash the chip in order to get it to work..The only way to mess up both banks is if you did a bad flash on both of them..If you just messed up on one bank the other should still bot.

If it's a bad flash and you were trying to flash 503x on a clone, then both banks will be corrupt. Sorry bud.
Hotswap flash it is. There are a few of us around here that'll do it for you if you don't want to install a pinheader in your 1.0 or can't find another box to do it on.

Otherguy is in the US and he'll do it ($5), or I can do it for you if you're in canada (Free with some positive feedback - you pay return shipping)

Hackdabox your site is down.

Anyway, thanks for the help everyone.  I tried flashing bank 1 (flashbios 3.0.3) with x2 4983.06 which I made 512k, then it failed half way, and both banks frag.  After it failed, I was thinking, hey no biggie, try bank 0... no luck, frag on both banks.  I checked all my voltages, inspected for damages, nothing, everything checks out.  I bought it off lepper and hes a great guy, I'm just shipping it back to him and hes gonna see if he can reflash it, and if not hes gonna replace it, so no big deal I guess.  It just bothers me that I did the install perfect and the flash fails which is out of my hands.  I don't know why both banks frag, but at least the xbox works as stock.

Thx for the info, if anyone else knows anything I'd appreciate it.

My website works fine !!!

That is very odd. I have not ever had flashbios freeze while flashing and you were using the right bios and the right size. I trust lepper sells origianls from team omega so i am not sure what went wrong !

smile.gif.  I may as well as this here too: if he puts a pin header on it (I used wires originally) I may just desolder the lpc and put a pin header in.  Does anyone have any good techniques for desoldering it?  I don't have a pump but I have braid.  I have never desoldered the lpc before (1.0's I always tsop or use wires), so if anyone has any tips I'd appreciate it.  Thx.

Simply take your cleaned and tinned hot iron over the first lpc hole and put the tip in it to heat it up a bit. Now remove the tip and put the braid over over it ( on it ) now put with a bit of pressure the iron tip in the lpc hole ( you need a very small iron tip to get in the hole )

The solder will suck up onto the braid leaving a nice clean hole. If it doesn't work first time then repeat. Too low of heat iron will not work !!!!

Yes he is a top notch guy.  I already left him feedback in his thread, but he's such a great guy I will praise him more here.  Please, if anyone is looking for duox chips, contact lepper!  He is a GREAT guy!
