Is My Duo X2 Rooted?
« on: August 14, 2005, 12:05:00 AM »

X2 5035 has 2 versions, one for 1.0-1.5 and one for 1.6 xboxes (when you downloaded them they should have been labelled correctly)...So it was either a bad flash or wrong Bios.

The FLashbios bank works, after MANY tries..So thats basically your only choice, keep booting into flashbios until you get video and before flashing make sure to switch to the other bank so it fixes it..

You can't do the 007 exploit and flash the modchip on your 1.6 xbox.

Update...

I tried to flash the other bank (the good one I'm booting flashbios from) and this gives me exactly the same error.

So I'm guessing this is a faulty chip, and I did things correctly to begin with using the eurasia flash tool, but because the chip was faulty it failed.

Maybe eurasia doesn't have the same failsafe measures as flashbios because eurasia overwrote the cromwell bios with something (garbage) that prevented boot. But the flashbios Failed before flashing and is still bootable - but not flashable.

Depending on how the retailer goes with returns/replacements, I think this experience will change my view on 'cheap' modchips.
I previously thought that with the expensive modchips (I also have a box with an X3 in it) you pay for features you don't really need or use, but I think what you are paying for is reliabilty, testing, support and documentation.

I have found that  - with the exception of this forum, and I'm kicking myself for not checking in here before I bought/installed - the support & documentation for the DuoX is at best very poor.
Their installation guide is average,
They fail to mention that flashbios may take many reboots to work,
They leave you in the dark with how to use cromwell & eurasia.
They have no forum on their website.

cheers

ps The Xbox-Scene modchip comparisson tables http://www.xbox-scen...ips3b_table.htm says duox has no clones, however I read posts from hackdabox talking about testing the differences between duox real & clones,
how do you tell the difference? - I wonder if I have an inferior clone?

This is not the first report where flashing a clone duox2 white with the X2 5035 bios has damaged it. The chip was unflashable after that. Here are some pics of real and clones so you can decide if yours is real or fake. Real chips have gold around all the lpc holes not silver !

You are correct about the install instructions being average and there is a lack of support on their site. I have made a complete installation and flashing tutorial , so has chancer and others so now there is lots of good info for installing and flashing the chips. smile.gif

The problem with flashbios not booting on some models is becuase of the the ram timmings being different in the HYNIX ram chips on the V1.6b motherboard and at this stage ( Team Xecuter - Makers of the FlashBios ) are unable to resolve this problem sad.gif

As you now know you can keep trying and it will boot after many tries. I would not give up on the Duo X2 chip becuase the chips are good and even the clones work 100% perfect except the flashing of the dodgy X2 5035 bios. I am not knocking the X2 5035 bios in any way and i know that team xecuter swears it works 100% perfectly. What i am now thinking is that the DuoX2 has been well tested with FUJITSU , AMD ,  HYUNDAI as the original chips have one of these flashroms but the clone chips come with ST - M29F080A which is not used in the original design and just like the aladin xt 4032 could not handle the Evox M8 Plus V1.6 i now believe that the Duo X2 Blue or White Clones cannot support the X2 5035 bios becuase of the ST - M29F080A flashrom.

If your Eurasia reports your chip as a ST - M29F080A you have a clone !

If Evox says Manufacturers ID 20 Device ID f1 Flash Type ST - M29F080A you have a clone !

If Flashbios says ST_M29F080_series (20f1) you have a clone !

HackDaBox !

PS i am using a Duo X2 Blue Clone at the moment at it works 100% but it wont flash with the X2 5035 bios at all !

or do I rip it out and stamp on it and go out and buy an X3?

Blame the chip for your own failings.
The Team omega diagrams are as good as any and so is all  the info there. Its quite easy to install and flash one of these chips.

Reliability?? just short of 500 installs never a come back or problem.
Sorry if it seems harsh but the incorrect flashing is down to you not the chips fault
Flashbios has no differnt flash failsafe than any other. You just made the disc wrong so the flash never started. Once the erase bar is on there is no failsafe.
The fact you have a 1.6 box means you have to flash a 1.6 bios. You also still tried to flash 256k bios files even though it is stated as requiring a 512K bios on the Team omega website..
If you can get flashbios up still the chip is not the problem.
You can always hotswap the chip to flash if you mis-flash both banks.
If you return the chip the retailer will check it and if it works ok he will send you it back most likely.
If the chip is  a clone (and yes they are about) then its not Team omegas fault and the retailer should send you a genuine chip if thats what you ordered.
