I was fooling around with aid2 i just downloaded yesterday and i have a old 1.1 i softmoded and aid 2 hung while i was installing stuff. I was wondering if i unlock the harddrive, install a duox 2 chip in it and install dashboard and configmagic would that give me the appropriate key to relock the harddrive, so i could get it to work like a stock box again? Any help would be appreciated

Then i can simply take out the chip and away we go?

If you don't want to keep the chip in yes you can remove it once you have your HDD back to stock

I tried to put that drive in my other box with a x3 and it won't boot from the cd?

?hmmmmmm. I just get the "you xbox needs serviced screen". Does it have anything to do with it being locked? Thats why i was curious about unlocking the harddrive in the first place.

how come u needed to put it into another xbox? with the modchip u should still be able to boot a cd and restore ur c:

Because the box it was in didn't have a chip in it yet.

You can't put a locked drive in another machine and expect it to work, even if the box is chipped. Error 6 will be the result

The hard disk is locked to YOUR xbox. Thus, you need to put a chip into yours and fix it up, no other machine will be able to unlock it without your eeprom codes.

Ok thats what i thought. I've been reading a ton of stuff and i get it all backasswards...lol....I've got a couple chips in transit as we speak....Thanks for the prompt replys...much appreciated

If you have your eeprom just rebuild the drive with xboxhdm.

Here's the method I use to hotswap. I've found this to work the best for me.

1. Open the Xbox and set it close to the PC. Plug it in.
2. Open the PC and make sure an IDE cable is free and can reach the Xbox HD.

4. Before the PC BIOS looks for hard drives, hit the Pause/Break key. It should pause.
5. If you are planning to use xboxhdm, insert the CD to your PC CD-ROM drive. (Make sure you haven't unplugged the IDE cable to your CD-ROM drive!)
6. Turn on the Xbox.
7a. When the MS logo appears under the big X, remove the Xbox IDE cable and quickly plug in the PC IDE cable.
7b. If the MS logo doesn't appear, then swap just before the error screen shows up instead.
8. Hit space bar to continue booting the PC. If it takes a long time to boot (several minutes), then the HD has not been unlocked.

Thanks i might try that sometime if needs be, but i'm getting a few chips and i'll just go that route for right now. Thanks for the replys
