Duox2 Messed Up Xbox
« on: May 01, 2005, 02:36:00 PM »

lets see where to start well i had my duox2 chip in and my xbox was working fine but the screen was still black. (didnt know about the reboot issue then) So i tryed to take up the hardrive tray to solder and i forgot my xbox was plugged in not thinking straight i guess. Anyway something sparked! Couldnt see clearly where it came from.and weirdly the xbox was still on and i paniced so i yanked the cord outta of the wall as quick as i could and just desoldered the chip.(yea sounds stupid but i was frustrated and scared i messed something up).so now its not working. Is it possible thats its just this burnt out fuse issue people have been raving about. or could it be possible that my chip had programed the motherboard in a way that would make it impossible to boot without the modchip. yes sorry about the length. wink.gif oh yea some more info the motherboard inst gaining power at all now but the psu is working fine. so dont think it could be the fuse.

its not operating at all and i didnt damge anything i just desoldered the wires off the motherboard there is some solder still on the points though perhaps some is on the motherboard and i need to take it off somewhere.Everynow and then when i plug it in the power supply will spark but it still stays on.Nothing on any of the boards seem to be burnt.

If the power supply is sparking. have you checked the AC input connector soldering.
By the way because the mains smoothing electrolytic gave you a kick it still does not mean the power supply is working (only that the Hv electrolytic is charging)

i guess it would be the fuse than and not that then the psu all together just read another forum with the same problem and they said the fan would spin no matter what condition the motherboard was in well resonable condition as long as the psu is plugged into the motherboard.Anyone know any worthy tutorials for installing new fuses cause most are very craply written and hard to understand where the fuse actually is. i went to radio shack and they had the like plactic cylinder shaped things with metal points at the end and they said those were electronifuses but didnt look anything like the things on the power suppy.

I depends on your powersupply.

Look at www.xbox-scene.com/tutorials

Those fuses that you we're talking about are the right fuses. Make sure you get one that is the right amerage. THey're not just universal.

Read the tutorials to find out where your fuse is on your PSU, and to find out how big it is.

AND BE CAREFUL - You're lucky you didn't kill yourself! There is enough power in some of those caps to vapourize a screwdriver.

No the fuse is prior to the mains smoothing block.

If this is a 1.6 Xbox then you probably blew a transistor thats been known to cause this problem, here is a link: http://downloads.ozx...esurrection.pdf

If its not a 1.6 then disregard this post, it will self-destruct in 2 minutes  smile.gif

The fuse in the power supply is immediately after the mains input. In other words if the fuse was gone the mains smoothing electrolytic would not even see voltage let alone charge up. As yours was obviously charged (you got shocked) then your fuse is ok.
