Duox2 Clones Won't Flash With Linux Tools
« on: April 26, 2005, 08:09:00 AM »

Hi Guys,

I have been getting alot of pm's regarding some DuoX2's that won't flash using FLASHBIOS 3.03 or EURASIA and the usual issues of lowercase and burning speeds were ruled out as was every other normal problem.

It was later found by gizmo3107 that only Evox was able to flash them. So my SpiderChip Reflash Cd can be used to flash the DuoX2 clones but only if it has a working bios on it in the first place.

If you have FLASHBIOS or LINUX you will be UNABLE to flash the chip using the normal procedures and will have to hotswap it.

Hi HackDaBox
have you been able to obtain one of these for testing off one of the guys. I would be interested to see why evox should work and not another flash program. Do the bank sizes appear the same? have we any pictures of these to confirm they are defo clones and not a faulty batch from Team omega. If they are faulty from Team Omega I will let them know.

So compile a flashbios that does work and you can be some cloners best pal. If your flashbios 3.0.3 or 3.0.3 doesnt say 'now supports more devices' then use the latest one. Let me know what device your talking about so I can fix it in my clevermod flashbios release.

Shit... I just ordered 50 DuoX2 white clones....

I hope that they're not from the same manufacterer...
I'm not espeically interested in reflashing 50 chips before I sell them...

I just thought of something: is that because the flashrom type is unknown to the flasher?

IE) in evox, you need to identify the flashroms in evox.ini

Specifically, for true DuoX2s, you would need:
0x01d5,"AMD - Am29F080B",0x100000
0x04d5,"FUJITSU - MBM29F080A",0x100000
0xadd5," HYUNDAI - HY29F080",0x100000

The DuoX2 clone I have here has a bios marked: M29F080A... So I'm guessing that is a fujistsu Flashrom... It's made in Singapore. Where is the flashrom index for Flashbios/Cromwell located? Maybe they just need to be updated with whatever flashrom comes stock on the clone, if it is infact a clone that these people have.

See if you can read the flashrom type on the chip under the paint. IE where it says AMD or whatever, try to read what is on the chip underneath. You should still be able to see it a little bit. For instance, on my original, it says 'AM2F0806' If you can make out what it says, then you may be able to find the info needed for the flashrom to flash properly.

Also, try reading through this to identify if this is actually a clone or not. The original Whites look just like the blues, except thier white, so the stamps will still be yellow, and the pads still gold, as far as I know.

OK Guys,

If your having problems like cantloseu then please try doing a hotswap and flashing using my spiderchip reflash cd.

 Hotswap Guide:

Grab a xbox with a working chip ( aladdin xt / duox2  ) using a pinheader. Now you need to remove the D0 wire from the chip and solder it to the metal ring around the screw hole near the lpc on the mobo.

If you have a aladdin xt modchip you need to solder a link wire on to BT and GROUND like in this pic

http://members.lycos.co.uk/hackdabox/bt2gnd.html

Or if you have a duox2 modchip you need to solder a link wire on to BT to G like in this pic

http://members.lycos.co.uk/hackdabox/bt2g.html

Now get the non flashable duox2 clone and add the same link as shown above to this chip.

Now remove any other wires that connect to the working chip like BT L1 L2. So the chip is easy to remove. Now remove the lid from the xbox and lift up the dvd-rom drive and turn it around facing the wrong way. Now you can access the lpc (modchip area) with ease and safety.

NEVER touch the power supply area while the xbox is on as this can KILL you. However this procedure is safe when followed exactly ... i have hotswapped 100's of times.

Download my SpiderChip Reflash Cd and unrar it. Burn the image using Nero Burning Rom. Choose a slow write speed 4x cdrw or 1x dvd-r. choose disc at once and finalize.

With the good chip in power up the xbox with the SpiderChip Reflash Cd in and wait for it to boot.

Once it appears carefully pull the working modchip up and off the pinheader and replace it with the Duox2 Clone and then choose Reflash Spiderchip and then choose the xbox version the chip will be going into XBox V1.0- 1.5 or XBox 1.6 & 1.6b

If you have more than one clone , repeat the above booting off the one you just flashed and do another.

Once finished put your original modchip back in and move the d0 wire back onto the D0 pad on the modchip itself and hook up the BT wire. If you have an aladdin xt also hookup the L1 wire.

Can you read the flashrom id on the longer chip on your duox2???
If you know what it says, then you should be able to find the necessary info to flash it.
