Takeing Out The Pin Headers In X2 Install
« on: October 15, 2003, 11:59:00 PM »

Man...I am sick and tired of the #@$# pin headers breaking contact on the LPC points. I have resoldered it four times and everytime one of those eventually looses contact. I am going to take out the pin headers and just solder the wires to the LPC points. I guess  what I will do is use a desoldering pump.... Those don't suck the solder up very good, but it is the only thing I can think of. I don't think this will be to easy, does anyone have any suggestions for taking out the pin headers?

Thanks,
-Dman

a soldering pump is an excellent device for sucking solder.

de-soldering braid is good for sucking up solder out of holes

flip the board on its side  apply soldering iron to bottom of board take  pliers to posts and once the iron has heated the solder up  the pins will fall out almost.. then once you have taken pins out use a solder sucker from rat-shack  $13.95 and do same with the solder. HOWEVER>>>   your problem  with the contact points coming loose may not be  an accident.  If you used the wrong solder   this will happen. you should use a good 60/40  or if you goto rat-shack get there Highteck solder  it works great.. The solder should not come loose unless you used a more solid solder and not the correct mix.. IE  using  plumbers solder 80/8/2  or some other special purpose solder. also a steady heat will help create a better  connection  to the contacts..  but hey its your toy's :)
