I was looking at the duo chip I just installed and was wondering if anyone has done this yet and what was the outcome? I would like to remove or bypass the switch that allows you to switch the banks and put a external switch so you won't have to take the box apart to switch banks. Would I use a SPST or a SPDT switch? I am thinking it would be SPDT but I am not sure.

It's good to see somebody that is thinking outside of the box.

I tried this a while back with not so good results. I actually lost one of the banks.

Anyway, you need a SPDT switch similar to the ones used for the multiple hard drive mods.

You have to remove the top half of the switch on the chip, the part that actually slides.
Once you get that removed, you can see how the switch works and how the switch is soldered in.

The use 30 gauage solid core wire and solder to each of the six pads on the switch.

Then just match the wiring to your new external switch.

It will work, I just used to heavy a wire. I think it was 22 gauge. I lifted three ofthe pads and destroyed two traces.

The switch did work before this happened though

I set up an Xbox for a friend this way. The mobo wouldn't boot from the TSOP no matter what we did, so we removed the switch on the Duo, wired up a SPDT switch, and flashed half the chip with X2 4981 and the other half with the retail MS BIOS. He now has a fully functional Xbox and goes on Xbox Live regularly.

Thanks I removed the switch from the board and there are six points there so I just soldered a jumper accrossed each one then a wire from those jumpers to the switch. I then put evox M8 on bank 0 and Cromwell on bank 1 Works great I think I am going to stick with these chips for awhile I like them a lot. I have not had any problems yet with them.

Hey Chancer do think its possible to make one 1MB bank from the 2 512k Duox2 banks, I'm thinking maybe bridging the banks where the switch is? (I'm guessing and have no idea so no one try it)

I would think you have to remove it since if the stock switch is left and is in either bank then you will only be seeing one of the 512k banks and the new switch you put will probably just turn that 1 bank On/Off (unless you can put the stock switch in like neutral )

addin another switch in parallel with the on one the chip would allow you to close to a single bank (the one that is selected by the onboard switch) or close both banks... i have no idea how the chip would react to this. But it would effectively be doing what modding maniac asked about (trying to make a 1meg bank).

if you think about it, it'd be something like this

..I keep looking at your diagram but can't seem to process it in my head..The way I see it is that if you put a switch in parallel with the old one that would switch between the 512k bank selected by the stock switch and and a 1mb that you made by adding the extra switch but then you couldn't have 2 bioses (I think thats what you said and thats what I expect would happen)

I'm going to have to try this becuase i want to try out the 1mb bank. I think the only way would be to physicall move the stock switch in order to switch between the 2 512k banks.
