Ok, before everyone gets all over me, I have been searching the forums for like 5 hours now.  My problem is as stated in the title.  Some guy gave me his xbox to chip & format new HD.  He told me the new HD was already inside, but it was not it was the original xbox HD and by accident I went and ran the new harddrive install program.  Now it is buggered.

What I have tried:
Evox - Lock & unlock

Unlockx - ran from my pc, just asks for HD key, I type in nothing & and it says program can't unlock HD proggy closing.  I tried running it again but same thing.

Booting with PC - attached as to second ide connection, but PC won't boot says inproper boot sector (even though My main PC HD is master)

Tried letting PC boot & attaching after windows started, but it won't read it (tried going to add Hardware) still no luck.  (if i can get it to read the drive than I can use LiveInfo (wish u could use liveInfo in dos 8-))

Tried to do a hotswap (power up pc & xbox (disconnecting dvd drive in xbox) waited a minute pulled out xbox HD put in PC, still wouldn't read.

So I don't know what else to do...

To make things worse, his xbox is messed up and I am going to give him mine (problem with his is what others have experienced, tried to install matrix in his v1.2 and now it just turns on flashing green & orange, then turns off & turns on & does it again, then turns off, & back on flashing green & red).

So yeah to say the least this was a horrible experience.

Anyhelp would be much appreciated.

If it wasn't the original and it was locked, he probably used config magic to lock it so the master password "TEAMASSEMBLY"  should work from the pc using the "liveinfo" software from team assembly.  btw I'd be careful with all of that hot swapping, sounds like trouble brewing to me.

Hey thx for the reply, but the problem is, it was the original xbox HD 8-(

Any further help would be greatly appreciated.

With regards to liveInfo it does not read it, just reads my other drives, not the xbox one 8-(

Hi,

I've the same problem.

I've a Samsung SV1203N and it is locked (not with Config Magic) and I don't have the password.

I would use the HD in my PC. Can anyone help me please to unlock this HD?

put the hard drive back in your xbox and ftp it and look in c:/
there is a file that tells you your hard drives password
i cant remember the name of the file but there is a tut on it on the main site

thanks for your help, but this don't work, because the xbox can't boot with this HD.

Thanks for the tips I am going to try now, but like racebutt I am not sure if I can do this as the drive will not load.

Update:

Ok next test I did:

I attached my xbox's HD and ran the evox cd, then started config magic.  While booting I hot swapped the drives, and everything was good, config magic read the drive no problems, said it was locked an even gave me a HD password and all info.  So I tried to unlock through config magic, and everytime it just said failed to unlock.  So then I wrote down all the info about the drive hooked it up to my pc & ran unlockx and put in the HD password, still it does not unlock.  (i did the hot swap in the xbox many times to make sure the passcode was the same in config magic every time & it was).

So I don't know what the hell, I have all the info though about the HD (ie: Online Key, serial, mac address, and unique HD key) but how can I use them to unlock the drive??
And yes I tried liveinfo, but my comp won't read the HD so it doesn't do anything even after I input the other info.

Any further Ideas would be a great help!!!

did u try atapwd in dos and try the master password unlock as suggested ? "TEAMASSEMBLY".    also try the user password in atapwd also ..

Thank U for the idea, but I have already tried this, and it did not work, I am guessing because it was already locked from before as it is an original xbox HD.

Any other ideas??

well the first thing you need to do is get the pc to recognize your drive, just plkay around with different jumper settings until you find a combination that works.

my western digital harddrive would detect fine as secondary master or slave, but with the seagate the only way I could get it to work was to set my pc HD as slave, let the seagate be the master, and in my bios change the boot disk to slave.

spend a few minutes figuring out which set-up works for your pc, once you figure this out just hot swap and you should be fine. use a backup of your xbox to restore his.

hot swapping is ver safe, just leave the power plugged in at all times.

I've hot-swapped over 30times, and there's nothing to be worried about, as long as you use a little common sense and know how to handle a harddrive.

That's a dangerous statement. I can assure you that I know how to handle a hard drive and I killed my Seagate slim drive by hot swapping it. The drive no longer spins up and as best I can tell the firmware (which gives the command for the drive to start spinning up) was corrupted when hot swapping it.

I to am having a harddrive locking problem I locked my hard drive in configmagic. The Xbox i am modding is now toast. And when i hook up my drive in my computer to use liveinfo windows XP will not boot it just stills at the loading bar in a loop. My bios seems to see the drives just fine. i set it up on cable select and put in the on the primary channel at the end the IDE cable. (I have RAID will this make a difference?)
