Installed X-chip Light Turns On But No Change
« on: May 03, 2005, 04:56:00 PM »

I just installed the X-Chip into my 1.0 xbox.  I used the alt d0 point and all my soldering looks correct.  The xbox works normally, booting retail games, etc.  But there is no sign that the x-chip was ever even installed into the system.
Are there any preliminary steps I can take to figure out what could be wrong?  If the chip is still flashed with the cromwell bios, when I turn on the xbox will I get some type of notice that the chip is booting off of that bios? <

I need help with a similar problem...
I have the X-chip,solderless, installed on Xbox 1.0. It has worked for the past 2 months, and now when I turn on the Xbox, it boots to the default MS dash. I have re-flashed the BIOS (X2), held all sorts of buttons during boot, and even run the Xbox all opened up to make sure the red led on the chip was still on. All the saved games and Apps I have put on are still there, but nothing is happening.I have tried to put the dash boot disc in, but that doesn't work. What is going on? It's like the Xchip is hibernating. Please help me before I throw the Xbox through a wall.

Update:

I am now fragging only when my x-chip is plugged into the pin header.  If I remove it, the system starts to the ms dash as normal.  Is this an indicator that my LPC is soldered poorly? <

Beelzebub1: Solderless has become unalligned, common with solderless solutiosn you will need to reallign and secure again.

badgerAlum: If the box is fragging means you have D0 right and its trying to boot the xchip off lpc port.   Verify no bridges and all the pin header pins are soldered in.  Also recheck D0 wire spot and make sure wire is under 7 inches long.

Thanks for the tips, and a little piece of mind. :)  My D0 wire is 3 in, and I just picked up a multimeter so I can test the LPC.  I'm just glad to have the problem narrowed down! <

Thanks for the post. Since I have been shuffling the box between two houses, that would make a lot of sense. Sorry to be a bother, but what does re-aligning entail? Complete uninstallation and re-installation of chip+adapter? Or just wiggling until it works? Any help you could give would be appreciated.

I must apologize for my laziness. I just checked the troubleshooting guide on Easybuy200, and they said what you said. I will reinstall, and fix any pin issues.
Thanks again

You could move till working, but uninstalling and reinstalling will take as just as much work.  Very little work if any tongue.gif

Suggestion, try using locktight on screw or silicon.

But since you take from one place to another and move it around alot, I would suggest eventually soldering it in.
