Need Help Using X-chip To Fix A Bad Eeprom
« on: April 25, 2005, 08:55:00 AM »

Anyone ever used the X-chip to fix an eeprom?

Since there are no bioses for the 1.6 that are eeprom embed-able (yet) I'm trying to use a Cromwell bios to load Idot's Linux with Itools so I can reflash the eeprom from telnet.

I have a good eeprom I can use to flash it if I can just get into Linux. But I can't tell if the chip is loading the right bios or not. I have the Cromwell bios set as the boot bios through X-Control but my box is still fragging.

Does the X-chip really load the bios you have selected as boot through X-Control first or does it have to choose that one after it's powered on? (This would be a problem since the bad eeprom in my 1.6b is probably halting it before it can load cromwell).

Thanks

What you tell it to boot in xcontrol does work as long as you did a write changes after you selected it as boot.

Make sure proper image file size and writing to proper bank, as a corrupted file size/write can cause the fragging as well.

Maybe try writing the xlite bios to chip,as its cromwell supports 1.6/b boxes.

ok thanks for the info. I already tried an x-lite. Someone mentioned that the Xenium has it's own OS built in that you could fix a bad eeprom from. Maybe I'll just have to try that.

You can inject a working eeprom into a XLite bios usng Evox Tools included with Evox 1.3 download, and do a restore eeprom once at boot menu.
