On the separate external board there are three LEDs: amber - diabled mode, green - recovery mode, and red indicating power going to both boards.  By changing the dipswitch settings I can turn on all the LEDs except the red one.  I have switches 1,2,3 in off position and 4 in on position.  Shouldn't the red LED be on?  There is a red LED on the chip that comes but not on the external board.  Does that mean I am having an issue with power going to the external board, maybe the connector is bad or the board itself is bad?  I assume this relates to my above issue.

Try for a joke to boot with xlite installed and the external module disconnected from blue cable.

Also, maybe check the conenction of the blue cable on the X-Lite and make sure snuggly connected and cable all the way in the white molex connector.

If chip is taking update through http and signifying with green solid led, and no light on external module its a connection between both.

Also, when you are in the Cromwell is it RED text stating Cromwell X-Chip?  If so means you are in receovery mode which means switch is ON, make sure switch is 100% up and not down.  As switch down connects traces and switch up disconnects traces.  And external module is by deafult everything OFF ( open traces )

If you are getting a RED Text, and LED lighst green when switch is on.

I would look more at something else, as you state you cannot get RED light on module for power on.

If the 4 MB from a trusted source/site?

Are you writting a Evox 1.1, 1.2 or 1.3 to chip?

Also after writting the Evox files above and you press A the new banks will be displayed in Cromwell, you can selectteh banks 1-2 and make default and save changes and restart and see what happens.

Also what version of xbox is this?

the MB file I am using is evox ver 1.3 for x-chip that I got from xbins.  I even tried using the same older bios I used on that I used on a previous x-chip since the x-lite is supposed to be compatible with all previous x-chip bioses.  It is not the cable since I had the previous version of x-chip that came with the same cable to connect to the usb programming board and i tried that but same situation.  As for the banks listed on the cromwell menu, i tried setting the other banks as boot and switching to the other banks but it always boots back to cromwell.  According to the power LED and the cromwell screen the chip is being flashed correctly but after I press A and reboot.  The xbox version is 1.4.  Any other ideas or questions b/c I am all out?  To me is still looks like there is some sort of flash protection that I am not aware of or it is stuck in recovery mode.

OK lets start with basics:

How is it installed ( soldered or solderless ) ?

How long does it take to write the 4MB file via http?

What browser are you using to wriet file?

Have you tried putting chip into recovery mode and then updating via HTTP and then disabling recovery mode?

Is it possible when you broke apart PCB you damaged or something fell off chips? Did you use plyers to break apart or hands?

Ok sounds good so far, with solderless yoiu are using the rivits correct?

If you look at modchip itself , it should be missing one resesistor behind the header. and a row of pads about the regulator 6 have nothing.

Check for solder at the header on all pins and the white conenctors at all pins.

Maybe want to check the switch solder as well.

Maybe look for bridges on the chips as well.

But if all above fails would suggest RMA it.

IN all honestly since swith needs to be closed to see recovery bank and you do say text is RED, woudl mean a short/bridge is present someplace since it needs to connect these two traces together to boot it. Assuming possible on the molex connector on modchip itself since when module not conencetd still boots recovery.

Also, as a last resort JOKE try writing evox 1.2 to chip and uisng Internet Explorer.
