Slow Ftp Times From Xbox To Pc
« on: November 17, 2004, 08:22:00 AM »

Getting very slow transfer times of about 10kbps from my xbox to my pc.
Is this normal.
Using standard NIC card, crossover cable to xbox.
Configured connection using instructions found on this forum.

Anybody heard of this?

Okay... i have a feeling that you are running xp sp2

When i use my desktop (xp sp2).. the transfer speed is fixed at 28k/s

when i use my laptop (xp sp1)... the transfer speed is approx. 10mb/s

same settings...

this slow transfer can be caused by Xp service pack 2...

How do you come to the conclusion that SP2 is the problem?  Any supporting info would be great.

What ftp program are you using to get 10Mb/sec? Does it have to do with Avalaunch's boost mode? Just curious.

I usually get about 1Mb/sec no matter which FTP program I use or which dashboard.  I'd think either the dashboard or the ftp program would be more a factor than which service pack you have. Despite all the bad publicity sp2 is getting.

SP1 vs SP2? What the hell are you talking about. That has nothing to do with anything.

If there are speed issues, it's probably one of two things:

1. The cable or some hardware between the two devices (PC & Xbox)
2. Change the setting on your NIC to half duplex instead of full duplex. Cheap NICs can have problems communicating at 100mbps full duplex

Also, when you say from your xbox to your pc, is it the same from your pc to your xbox? If not, that can signify a cable problem.

Oh yeah, and the dashboard also has very little to do with anything either... it's all about the hardware. If other people can get good transfer rates, so can you.

Check your duplex speed.  I read some article that said to boost your ftp speed into the xbox change your duplex speed to full.  This did not work for me, I set it to Auto and I usually average 3-4 mb/s.

You can access the duplex settings by going to your local area connection and clicking on properties, then click the configure button and you will see some tabs, click on advanced, highlight speed & duplex then fool around with the settings and see if that helps.

Sorry been gone for a while.

Used every availble NIC setting and no change.
As well tried 3 different FTP programs, and still have the issue.

I have a DLINK DFE 530 TX nic card, and ensured I have the most up to date drivers.
As well Win XP but no SP 1 or 2.

Thinking I'm gonna try a new NIC card or cable to see if that changes anything.

Any possibility that it is something on the xbox ftp settings?

OK, GOT ANNOYED, FORMATED THE C:\ DRIVE AND REINSTALLED IT ALL.

NOW GETTING HIGH 800'S TO 900'S KBPS IN DOWNLOAD SPEED.

My advise if you have same problem, back up data, rebuild and try and cross your fingers.
