Controller Port Freeze
« on: November 02, 2004, 01:53:00 PM »

Hey, I think I got a new one for you guys!
It does'nt matter if I have my MS or nyco controller plugged in, but sometimes (a lot!) it seems like it just disconnects without warning
It can be in the middle of a game or just simply looking though my dashboard. I have to unplug it and plug it back in and then it works fine.

I bought a new MS controller thinking it was maybe just bad luck with the controllers, not it.
I installed new controller ports (had to redo my lighted controller port mod) and still...........not it.
I've looked around inside the xbox and didn't see any wires nicked or harnesses cracked.
I've tried different BIOS.

It has been doing it for a while now and it wasn't untill after I installed the chip.
If you know anything that might help me, I am always up for suggestions!

Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of.  I've got the xbox repair guide but it does'nt mention this problem (of course) but do you think it may be something I could repair?  I would sell it but, I would'nt sell something with a glitch.

THX 4 UR HELP!!!!

You mention lighted controlelr port, maybe LED is cauing issue as well, maybe its dying or pully to much juice,

But try as pine suggested without chip installed and see what happens.

Like pine said, but a faulty LED will die without telling you via a message and cause a power surge like a USB port on PC, unplug and reinsert usually fixes issue short term.

It will not give error as if you play a game and unplug controller what happens?  Game doesn't give error message.

No, the controller just stops working like it's unplugged but no message about a controller being unplugged at all or anything. My light mods are only a few weeks old and this has happened long before that.

It does seem like it will always do this durring exiting a emu (any) ,exiting xbmc, or anytime I IGR.  But when playing games from HHD, when it does start to do it, it does it a lot. Not so much where you cant play a game (every 15-20 min) but enough where I just want to throw the controller at the wall!! grr.gif

I'll try taking the chip out but it's a lot of work with all the light mods in this thing. And by the way, thanks for the help.smile.gif

Try removing programmer from cable outside and see what happens

What are you talking about? I've had the xbox running without the usb plugged into the chip and it still happened.
I used an auto installer (HQ autoinstaller) to install my dashboard and when I installed a new HDD I started from scratch and installed everything (incl. Dash) with thier updated autoinstaller.
I was just wondering if a problem like this had ever occured with other people with the same chip.  I'm leaning toward a faulty xbox. sad.gif (like [email protected] suggested)

But, let me know what you mean by removing programer cuz, I'm up for anything!!:)

Why not try slayers autoinstaller ( slayer.xbox-scene.com )  I have not heard of the HQ installer so cannot comment on if its working great or not.

I heard that the slayers autoinstaller  was outdated.  I used the XS Filter - Links to Xbox Warez and Torrents ** autoinstaller from XS Filter - and it's got everything on it. I've been real pleased with it so far. It's not designed specificaly around the X-Chip but I haven't had any problems.

I really haven't looked into the slayers but when I get my next x-box maybe I'll see what it's got to offer.

Slayers autoinstaller version 2.6 is not xchip orientated, its just a compilation of utilities etc for a modded xbox to help newbies with auto installing application.  Probable same as the HQ but slayers is more newbie orientated to get machines up quick without  thinking.
