Yes yo can play back-ups, and no you don't have to mess with the bios if you use the x-chip 1.2, other than at set up you need to enable the proper lba mode, very very simple to use chip.......

For legal reasons, the xchip ships with linux biso which is legal, what end user does with it is not eb2k's concern, although they spill the beans when they tell peoepl what they need to get what you want( backups )
