It actually sounds to me that it's just fragging.   Try loading a new bios into the x-chip.  Probably best if you just copy the one that you currently have in yours and put it into his.

i have 2 healthy boards that give me red/orange after trying to boot two times...one beeps once on each attempt

Interesting, all my successful installs start out green, red, organe falshing green solid green.  This is with cromwell BIOS from shipped state.

Solid green with evox 1.1

If that was good, you would be getting either FlashBios or fragging.

Does your solderless adapter have 11 pins ontop and 10 on bottom?
