X-chip Troubles
« on: October 25, 2004, 07:16:00 PM »

Finally got the chip to boot, but now it gets stuck at the first screen.  The bios starts to load and the X starts to apear and all of a sudden it stops.  Tried loading different bios but all of them do the same.  Anyone have a clue? Chip bad maybe?

I am having the same problem.  The MS bios is loading and not recognizing the chip.  What did you do to make it finally see the chip.  I also have a v.1.0 x-box.

You should be using Evox 1.2 as it's made specifically for X-Chip.  But since you are using excuter bios, verify you loaded it properly.  To do again, open up xcontrol and read manual on restore full.bin.  Then afterwords right click on any bank(s) and click load and select your executer bios, then goto X-Chip -> Wriet changes.   This will verify bios loaded properly.

If only M$ dash still, you must verify your D0 ( its different then a 1.5 on a 1.0 ) then of ok, you must verify contact on LPC port if all looks fine, you may need to clean all points with rubbing alcohol.

Well I finally got my chip to boot.  Having problems now though, with the bios loading properly.  I turn the xbox on and it goes to the xbox symbol, but half way through the xbox symbol animation, the screen locks up?  I have tried using many different bios, but all do the same.  Cant find the evox 1.2 anywhere so not sure if that is the problem or not.

Please explain how you loaded bios to x-chip in exact deatils.

Also, try cleaning all LPC points and D0 with rubbing alcohol.

my xbox is v1.0 , my chip was flashed to Ev0x v1.2 via usb connector, i started my xbox, the chip was lit with my usb connector removed, my xbox booted to the xbox operating system, and it fails to recognize change. I suppose there is a dvd/cdrw method of doing a flash but i'm kind of unfamiliar with it. Any suggestions?

tongue.gif  (just kidding)

[UPDATE]
Nevermind, mine is working perfectly now. The issue with mine is one of the pins on the bottom of the solderless adapter (the ones that push in) was jammed all the way in. So it wasn't making a connection to one of the LPC points. After I got the pin back out and everything re-installed it worked great.  biggrin.gif

I can't find the evox 1.2 bios anywhere so I loaded up my xecutioner 2 bios that I have used in my other xbox.  I plugged in the usb to  the chip, the red light came on.  I clicked read settings, set up a bank at 256k (the size of the bios), left clicked on the bank and selected load bios.  Then set up that bank to boot and then clicked write changes on the menu at the top.  Unplugged after it was finished and plugged in the xbox.  Hit the power button and it gets stuck on the boot at the Xbox logo.  Tried different bios' but nothing.  Cleaned the soldered holes and the d0 hole with alcohol, thats how I got the chip to finally work the first time, but now it just stops half way through the bios load at the beginning.

If using evox bios on 1.0 box, make sure you change the defaulted disable modchip ( XBOX  BIOS ) to something other then Eject button!
