update: I reflashed the bios (x-chip 1.2) and my xbox went back to working. but again, this morning, it's doing the exact same thing ... FRAGin. Please, anyone, ideas?

Are you using solderless adapter, if so may have becoem loose if screw was not loose.

Since xcontrol see's chip, its wokring fine. Maybe a loose connection at 1st glance.

well, here's the thing could the xchip have become loose if my xbox hasnt moved at all? yes, i have the solderless, but that thing was in their VERY snuggly. i had an electronics pro put it in and she took her time. i could have her take a look, but i don't think this is it, unless you guys have seen/heard of this before.

more info: both FRAG sessions came after the xbox was turned off with the power button on the box and not via the dash. don't know if this matters or not and both were after long gaming sessions.

what's most curious to me is that after i loaded the bios again, it worked fine. and these problems started a week after i installed 1.2. i am going to try to reinstall 1.2, but i have a suspicion that it might be 1.2. i might also add 1.1 and try to boot off that if 1.2 fails.

Yes, i have seen them come loose. They are springs 10 of them put under pressure, with time some or all with try and expand this puttting force to move adapter upwards and presenting stress on screw. No movement of xbox is required.

Powering off via dashboard and power button would ot make a difference as no power is given and tunrs off both xbox and xchip.

I have heard of using eject button to power on causng similiar issues.

If reloading of bios fixed issue, how is programmer atatched externally or you have to open up box and connect and reseat?

the usb adapter is mounted externally. i am following the instructions and opening up the box to make sure everything in htere is kosher. i was an assistant in the install so i think i can re-follow the instructions. i will update on here when i investigate. also, when i went again to flash the bios, it was still fraging with the exact same bios as before (a fresh flash of evox xchip 1.2).

Before you move anything inside. open up case, then look at xchip and adapter, then more teh programmer, which you have externally as if you where going to reprogram, so if its moving the chip or lifting the adapter.

ok, i cleaned all the holes and i reinstalled. everything is snug. it's in the D0 hole, eveything is ok. i reflashed the bios, that's good to go too. but, instead of going to the x-chip bios screen and loading my dash, it goes into the m$ dash and it doesnt recognize cd-rws (i tried to stick slayers in there). i have no clue hwere to go from here and thank you so much for your patience.

Good to hear your up again, sicne was D0 conenction, iu woudl suggest bending it a bit mor down so it will stick in the hole more for a better conenction.
