Xchip And The Rivets
« on: October 20, 2004, 09:13:00 AM »

The rivets are not needed in LPC# 9 (3.3 volts) for any version of Xbox.

The picture is a older picture which will be updated with a new guide that will be released very soon. Just need a few more pictures to take and put the guide together.

If you not sure where to put the rivets then simply allign the solder-less adapter to the LPC port. Put 1 rivet for every pogo pin that the adapter uses. There are 10 pogo-pin points (sharp points) with the solder-less adapter just install 1 rivet for every point even if the etra rivet(s) is there it won't matter if it's installed and won't do ANY damage to your XBOX if all 10 rivets are installed.

To be technical the XBOX needs 9 rivets installed for versions 1.1 to 1.2 and 8 rivets installed for versions 1.3 to 1.5

ALL versions of XBOX require a rivet installed in LPC #6 (5 volt) which the current guide does not show very clearly. (picture was taken from older Chameleon guide)

My new guide will show this very clearly and also give an explaination as well.

Only XBOX version 1.0 the version with the LPC filled in with solder does NOT need ANY rivets installed.

Just put the solder-less adaper centered on the LPC filled in holes and install the adapter as it should be.

Thanks for clearing that up, the install manual (photo) is very deceptive. I am glad your doing another one this should help everyone installing the chip. From all that I found no one really specifies the rivets installation on all versions.

Yes it's an old picture. My new guide will have 3 close up pictures simplfied the procedure and shows exactly where the rivets should be installed.

The trouble shooting section is complete as with the rest of the guide. Just lacking a few pictures which should be all taken today.

If all goes well I'll have the guide released tomorrow.

It's very newbie friendly and shows all procedures in easy to follow steps.

The guide is complete. However there are a few pics that still need to be edited and waiting on webmaster to help me with that. Webmaster is currently very busy with other projects. I was told that the webmaster should have some time today or tomorrow to finish it up. So far the first guide is about 40 pages long. A bit long but needed so to cover all topics very clearly. There are lots of pics in the step by step guide. It's very easy to follow even for a newbie.

It shows all different methods to install the X-chip for all version of Xbox including the 1.6 PCB rebuild procedure.

I have 2 other guides as well that I will be releasing as well. The troubleshooting guide and a soldering technique guide as well.

The troubleshooting guide deals with all different issues of an Xbox install going wrong. And the soldering technique is basically my personal technique that I share in how I solder successfully.

I have been writting these guides in my spare time in between the emails and phone calls that I receive every day.

First guide is pretty much complete last two need a bit more polishing before they are ready.

This is about the 5th post you say will be ready in a day or two when the webmaster will have some time.

Why don'y you just say it will be ready when its ready.

At 40 pages, I highly doubt anyone will read through it, they will just look at images and still make mistakes and depend on forums for help even if covered!

Ok when it's ready it will be released and I'll make an offical post.

If I knew photoshop I'd do it myself and it would have been released a long time ago. So I have to rely on others to complete the picture part of the guide which does contain many edited pictures.

This guide will replace the current solder-less guide and the 1.6 quick intall guides currently up on the website.

The guide is designed to be very newbie friendly and very complete. Most of the pages is taken up by pictures. You don't have to read the entire guide ONLY read what applies to your install metehod. I mention this in the guide as well.

I have the first section the walks you through which Xbox you have and which install methods can be used for those versions.

So in essense the guide is a buch of small guides all put into one.

pimpcj: Rule of thumb, if you can't insert rivits due to solder, DO NOT USE.  If you can insert rivits you MUST USE THEM!

Rivits are used due to a design flaw and the pogo pins being to small for open holed LPC port.

If your Xbox model has filled in holes then do NOT remove the solder and use the rivets. As Crav said the rivets are ONLY used for models with open holes in them. The solderless adapter is designed to be used with or without the rivets.
