X-chip Soldering Install?
« on: October 13, 2004, 07:38:00 AM »

What version of Xbox you got.

Soldering via the pin header install is very easy for the X-chip.

It is the same as the Chameleon pinheader install only difference is for version 1.5 and 1.6.

For version 1.1 to 1.4 all you need to do is solder the pin header in place and solder one end of a 30 gauge wire to the D0 point on the motherboard and the other end to the D0 point marked on the X-Chip.

As for version 1.0 it is the same as above only difference is you have to remove the solder on the LPC port BEFORE in order to fit the pin header then you do the same as above.

For version 1.5 you need to solder one more wire to rebuild the LPC port. You need to jump a wire (24 gauge) from ground #2 on the LPC port to any ground point on the montherboard. First you install the pin header as normal then solder the ground wire to #2 under underneith the motherboard. Once that is done route the wire up into a free LPC hole and solder the wire to the ground spot on top of motherboard.  Then solder your 30 gauge wire from D0 of motherboard to D0 of chip.

Only the 1.6 is a bit difficult because you need to rebuild the LPC port by soldering 4 wires. You also remove pin #4 and pin#6 from the pin header. Then you need to solder a 30 gauge wire from D0/LFRAME point on motherboard (I suggest you use the ALT D0 point) to the D0 point on X-chip.

Then you must power the chip up. You need to solder 1 more wire a 22 or 24 gauge waire from the 5 volt point on top of motherboard to the 5 volt point on X-chip. Don't forget to FLASH your X-Chip with the X-chip bios for the 1.6 version Xbox ONLY. Failure to do so can damage your Xbox.

Hope this helps.

There is no need for A15 and ground and the 5 volt point on the X-chip is only used for 1.6 Xboxes.

You can use a better 5V's by not using pin #6 on LPC port, or for people with old chameleon solderless adapters, just solder wire from 5V source to the 5V

Standard pin header install same as all modchips.

Then grab a wire from D0 and solder to pin #4 of LPC and you just need to shove on xchip.

Just be very carefull if soldering a wire to pin #4. If not done correctly you can short out board. Also you have to cut the the bottom part of the pin #4 so it does not make contact with Xbox motherboard.

I would use the standard install guide and solder a wire from D0 of maotherboard to D0 of X-chip to be safe.

If you removed two pins from pin header yoiu are drawing no power, 2 pins removed is for 1.6 xbox's only, all other xbox versiosn you just remove pin #4 for lpc port.
