Does X-chip Support Large Hds?
« on: October 06, 2004, 07:07:00 AM »

let's just say Evox 1.0 and original M8 do not support LBA48 ( greater then 137 GB ) hard drives.

Easiest solution is install Evox 1.1 and go into setup and change LBA48 to F and G, then save settings and reboot with slayers.  You will not get your 250 GB's on F and G drive.

If you go the route of M8, it is a modded bios (hacked ) so not official release and could posses bugs.

As Evox is derived off M8 it has a more supported LBA48 support since it is a official release.

And yes, X-Chip does work great with bigger drives.  Just download Evox 1.1 and read the manual included on the LBA48 section.

Log onto IRC efnet server and join channel #xbins for quickest access to Evox 1.1

Evox is derived off of M8 with added features.

I beleive ther was a utility for M8 that allowed end users to add IGR and LBA48 support.

But like I suggest, go with a official release ( Evox 1.1 ).

Are you seeing the purple Evox sheild on the top left of screen when you are powering xbox?  If yes, things looking good. If no, connection on LPC port maybe loose.

But since you loaded Slayers, I assume things OK, just wondering which option you selected in slayers autoinstall to setup harddive???

Yes, I'm seein both the sheild and the xchip symbols. In slayers, I chose the full format option. It made an f and g. I ftped through the slayers cd and moved avalunch into c and was able to boot to ava. but, avalunch was super buggy for me and i couldnt get dvd2xbox to backup my games onto g, so I am redoing slayers and only making a big, giant f drive (i set it on that in the bios). do u have any advice of where i should move the programs to optimize my xbox? i want to be able to use dvd2xb to backup my games to f/games and to use avalunch as my primary dash. i really appriciate all this help. u are the man.

Got Everything working now. Thank you everyone for your help. Here is a summary incase someone searches into this thread:

I have the X-Chip (aka EB2K) mod chip, which needs the special Evox X-Chip 1.1 bios. You can get it from xbins, but I will be sharing it on ed2k. In the manual that comes with the bios, there are clear instructions on how to set your bios to accept large drives. I set mine to one large F, but tested f/g also. Both work. You can then run slayers or x-disk. If you have problems loading your dash (the bios can point to any number of dashes, but slayers creates deafult.xbe which it can't be pointed to), ftp your box while slayers cd is running. Move your dash of choice to the directory you specified in the bios setup.

If you encounter this problem and you searched for this thread, PM me so I can return a favor that was done for me by patient posters.
