Xbox 1.6 And X-chip
« on: October 05, 2004, 04:59:00 PM »

I just purchased an x-chip, I looked HERE and decided the x-chip best suited me (I wanted a generation 4 mod chip as well). Anyone with them can comment on how they like it? ok I am almost 100% sure I have a version 1.6 xbox - Or I am pretts sure... I was wondering how different they are from the 1.1 - 1.4 versions - bigger HD, different setup? I know the motherboard is different, because even though I bought the "solderless" version of the chip I will still need to soldier it being the newer 1.6 xbox. I have seen internal pics between the origional, and the mid (1.1 - 1.4) xbox, but none of the 1.6. anyone have any? Also, look here this is a pretty well done site for finding out your xbox version: http://www.xbox-linux.org/Xbox_Versions_HOWTO
only think that bothered me is my factory code is "06" and it reads::: If the factory code is "06" (Taiwan), you have at least a 1.6 Xbox. BUT then it says::::
All Xboxes since 2003 have been manufactured in China. A Chinese box can be a 1.1, a 1.2, a 1.3, a 1.4, or a 1.6 (there is no such thing as a 1.5 Xbox). Taiwan is off the coast of China, but IN china... then I got upset down farther on the site because it has a chart with the MFG dates and a legend for xbox versions. my MFG date is 2004-03-11 wich is NOT ON THEIR LEGEND, it would aslo look to be in the 1.4 area (wich cant be true)... bah what a headache... I didn't want to open my xbox untill the chip came, because we have dogs and I don't want hair getting inside of it...

Easiest way is got to the eb2k product page and look at the 1.6 quick install guide. If your xbox looks like that its 100% certain it is a 1.6.  If not its a basic 1.4, and solderless adapter will work

I have installed a few xchips on mine and some freinds boxes and enjoy it very much, I suggest you load Evox 1.1 to take advantage of all the features of the xchip.

Also, if you have a 1.6 make sure you load a 1.6 capable bios on chip!!!

Its on xbins, when you FTP you will need to select XBox, then Bios, the X-Chip.

Yes update .dll , as newer drivers are usually better and fix some bugs.

I think you mean, 2.6 and its newer then 2.5 obviously.

Has newer versions of applications of time of creation.  Most application support LBA48 drives now ( G )

But its still straight forward installation CD to get started, a must for newbies.

ok just got my x-chip today (yay)!  A few quick guestions... should (can) it be upgraded before you install it in your XBOX? Also, what is the difference from the 3 files from the x-bins, and the files from the EBY2K site? do I use both of them? I have every file from the EBY2K site and from the /bios/x-chip from Xbins through MIRC. the x_control_install...? and I hear people say I need a special file since my xbox is 1.6 Well I haven't seen any option where I would pick the 1.6 file?? Help - I am alittle overwhelmed.. LOL

Just did mine.  Got chip today as well.  No, you can flash the xchip outside of the xbox uninstalled.  if you open the .rar file you got from the /xbox/bios/x-chip directory, you'll see there's TWO .bin files, you want to use the one that says blahblahblah-1.6only.bin

after you install x-chip control, then you'll extract the xusb.dll (I think that was the name) from the 'updated dll' file, and then copy that into your x-chip control install directory overwriting the xusb.dll that is already there.  Then plug the usb cable in, and windows will say 'new device found' and ask for drivers, the drivers are located in the x-chip control install directory under /usbdrivers.  after the drivers installed, then run x-chip control and then pic file/load raw

then pic write from the second option, wait for the % counter to finish at the top of the program.  then install your chip.

That's where I was when I left work.  At the install of the chip part.  I to have a 1.6 xbox and will try to reply again tomarrow after I do the soldering.

WIG
