Original As Default Bios Issue
« on: October 05, 2004, 12:26:00 PM »

From my understanding ( coudl be wrong ) is the button on programmer is used for restoring EEPROM to Xbox if stored on X-Chip, and to restore the defaulted boot settings ( aka boot bank1 , etc )

My suggestion for you:
X-Control, Load Evox 1.1 change the boot up of Xbox bios to BOOT, and change the Evox to a button like Y.

So whenever you want to play copied games, etc... Press and Hold Y button on controller while powering up with power button for 5 seconds.

Well, in X-Control, I can only set the xbox BIOS to the "eject" button and the XChip BIOS to "BOOT".

So I tried to configure the button assignment you are suggesting in the xchip bios setup (Y=xchip bios, boot=original), but still does not work. Eject is still booting to xchip bios.

worse... now even after reflashing the xchip, I cant get back to the original behavior  dry.gif  even more strange

If you press eject and have no button assigned of cource it should boot MS bios, or at least i think it should.

Nope sad.gif in my case, what it does: even if the default BIOS is the original, the eject, if unassigned, will boot the xchip.

The strange things is that it use to work (until you press the USB adapter button) but now I cant get it to work anymore. is there a way to completely wipe the xchip BIOS and start from scratch? (more than just loading the xchip bios and writing)

The flash will be completely wiped if you flash the Evox BIOS or the Cromwell BIOS. (4MB images)

Try removing the USB cable when testing (if it is connected)

What XBOX version do you have ?

it's a V1.0 Xbox.

the workaround I found so far was to flash the original BIOS in a bank and assign that bank to the Eject button. But I am not sure that's live safe (never hear otherwise as well).

I will test with the cable unplugged

Load Evox 1.1 and set xbox bios to a button on controller.  Works on my 1.0 xbox.

Flashing Original XBOX BIOS to a bank, is not safe for Live.

Using the Live Blocker or booting from original tsop bios is only way to be safe for Live service.

You could also remove the net cable if you are unsure.

Original bios loading from any modchip is very dangerous for 1 reason....the modchip is enabled to load the bank, thus can get you banned from Xbox Live very easily and quickly!

Pine:
I am not 100% sure if it would actually get you banned, but I believe it will.

Magenois:
If I understand you right, you were worried about your kids accidently Entering Live service, and/or changing settings in Xchip setup.

You realize that the X-Chip setup provides XBOX Live Blocker and complete password protection that would prevent them from doing so?

But ofcourse if you want to be able to play on Live those options is not for you.

Good point Grilf but I wanted to prevent them to get into the Evodash as well so they cant mess with stuff there. So maybe I can do as you are suggesting but set the default dash to the xbox one and change it when I use the xbox.

honestly, I just started of thinking to alternative solutions as I was pretty sure I could do what I wanted with the xchip BIOS settings.

the Xchip 1.1 BIOS still does work as it is documented in the instructions with regards to the default BIOS options in the bank settings.  I got it to work for a while and now I cant get it to work anymore. maybe it is something that'll be fixed in 1.2 smile.gif

Well, I did like you suggested. password protected the Evox 1.1 bios menu's and removed the settings menu from the dashboard (Evo dash should allow password protected menu in the future !)

You said you got it working, but how exactly are you set up? ysing the default BIOS in evox bios?

thanks
