Problems With X-chip Install On A V1.6
« on: September 30, 2004, 07:37:00 AM »

1st Grab yourself Evox 1.1 and write the 16.bin file to your xchip via, File->Load Raw->16.bin file.

2ndly have you tried the D0( LFRAME ) they have posted on the quick install guide for 1.6's????

3rdly verify no pin in LPC pin #4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4thly Verify all points over and if you have a ohm meter, do a continuity test on all solder points.

5thly Make sure you have Xchip installing in proper direction and all pins on the pin header going in proper pins on pin header row you installed on xbox.

I believe issue can be the D0 as its the most trickiest point to solder.  Try removing all wires and cleaning all points with rubbing alcohol and scrapping then abit with an exacto knife.

Do not use full.bin from xcontrol software package on 1.6 xbox.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I will most likely resolder the points when I get back home this evening.

I have removed the two pins from the header as indicated by the quick install guide.  I did not use the d0 point suggested in the guide.  I have green laquer covering the point and did not feel like attempting to remove it.  I used the point on the bottom of the motherboard.

Any suggestions on where to grab that Evox 1.1 from?

If you find the D0 from the top too difficult there is an alt DO point underneath the motherboard. You can use that one it's must easier than than the top point.

Make sure you don't have any cold joints or any bad soldered points.

Just an update for anyone else experiencing this problem.

I flashed Evox 1.1 to the chip before any resoldering and tried to boot up with no success.

I disconnected all of my soldering points, lpc and d0, and removed solder with a desoldering braid.  I then resoldered all of my connections ensuring as good of a connection as I was capable of (wire touching motherboard instead of just in good contact with solder).

After all was said and done, my xbox is now booting with the xchip and I get to learn all the other cool stuff now.

If your xbox behaves like mine did, you will need to resolder your points.

Sorry about the post about the DO as for shipping bios of the X-chip we only ship the Cromwell bios with the chip.

The version we ship does not work for version 1.6 only 1.0 to 1.5

You need a special bios for 1.6 Xbox I would suggest you use Evox X-chip bios 1.1 the version for 1.6 Xbox only.
