Connection Problem
« on: July 27, 2004, 10:31:00 PM »

I installed the X-Chip tonight and I put the rivets in after determining i had a v1.2 xbox.  The chip install was really simple thanks to all the guides out there however, i am having one problem.

The solderless adapter doesnt seat right into the slots...it goes down and I screw it in and all and the d0 wire is connected but the only way i can get the red light to come on is if i put pressure on the chip to push it down.  Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I might do to fix this?

Thanks

Kai

PS - The chip doesnt go all the way down on the adapter, i think its because of the fact that the wires running across the top of the solderless adapter prevent it...could just be me.

All help is awesome.

look at the pictures on the solderless adapter guide. make sure you dont have the chip facing the wrong way.the part where the usb programmer goes into the chip should be facing inward. also look at the diagram on the adapter guide as to where the rivets go.make sure you have the right amount, in the right places. the chip shouldnt need any pressure, and it is normal for the chip to not press all the way down to the adapter.

hope i could help!

If the solderless adapter is not going all the way in, reallign with teh center of the pogo pins into the center of rivits and push down with one hand then use other hand to screw down.

You will notice on a successful install a few things:
1) The black plastic from solderless adapter is flush almost touching Xbox motherboard.
2) The screw that secures the solderless adapter will not be centered in the hole to screw it down.
3) The D0 wire if you touch it will not move from its original lovcation, will always spring back.
4) You will barely be able to see the white lines from the box around the LPC port, or will see that your soldereless adapter will run in paralel with them.
5) If you apply slight preasure to solderless adprer it will not move, if it does possiblities is stripepd screw, or no solder in holes or missing rivits if no solder in holes.

I am having the exact problem, only when i apply pressure does the light lit up. I've must have tried atleast 6 times trying to install it, cleaned lpc and D0. Any ideas anyone? I'm also looking at the wire preventing it from making full contact could that be the problem?

If applying pressure, maybe want to put some foam ontop of xchip and when you put in DVD drive it will push it down.

I like may others have the wire ontop solderless and it works.

Maybe try bending the pins on solderless adapter apart by extra 1mm, so when you shove xcip on it will be snug and stay in place.

Also... if your not sure you want to solder, you can goto the dollar store and buy a hot glue gun, and glue the sides of the solderless adaptor down to the motherboard... its safe and VERY sufficient.

dont put gule under the adaptor..... just hold down the adaptor and apply hot glue to the sides of it and hold it down for about 40 seconds.
then let go. happy gaming !  B)
