Is It Working?

Im not a real troubleshoting pro, but that sounds like your drive is on the fritz.  I know you have said that you tried cd-rw and dvd+r's.  Might just want to switch up the media to a diff manufacturer to see if that helps.  Hope this helps.

I really hope it's the media. I'll head into town today to try some different ones. But if it turns out to be the drive, can anyone recommend a place that I could get a new one? I'm not too keen on modding a brand new PC DVD drive at the moment.

OK. Got back and none of the other media types work. In addition to that, none of it workw when trying to play it on the new DVD reader I just bought. It's a Sony DDU1622 (couldn't find any of those listed in the tutorial). So it must be the drive or the mod (seeing as how an original game had to be in the XBox drive)! Am I back to square 1 or not, I'm unsure lol. I already reflashed the chip twice so it would seem that it is just the drive. Perhaps I was merely unlucky and purchased a drive that doesn't work in any way? Either way, need to take it back.

When you put Evox dashboard on disc, did you make sure it was written in fatx? try downloading Qwix to convert the files to a fatx iso to burn to disk, also if your getting an unreadable disk error that tells me its ms dashboard thats giving the error, ms dash only plays DVD films, music or games, try putting the disc in the drive then turn off then on, so it tries to boot the disk before ms dashboard starts.

ok first things first

when you start up your xbox does the little evox icon apear on screen in the upper left hand corner if not you mod chip isn't working

well now if you mod chip is working then you may need a xiso creation program a xiso is a special iso that only the xbox can read if you burned the cd like a regular computer cd it won't work and give you the read error sorry..

here is what you need

1. nero burning rom (must have)

2. a dvd burner or cd burner

3.simplexiso  which can be downloaded from www.xbox-tribes.com

go ahead and install your nero burning rom and your simplexiso

open up xiso and select create a iso then it will ask you where are your files located at select only the directory in which all the folders and files for the cd are located do not select anything inside the main folder of the cd files...

it will then ask you what you want to save the iso as select desktop and type in what you would like to call it then select save

warning: if you have winrar installed on your pc  the iso will show up as a winrar file don't worry about that just right click on the file and select open with then select nero burning rom
then from inside your nero software select burn and your done

hope this helps

Alright, reset the chip 3 times and reflashed it with evolutionx 2.5 for the second time. no more batteries. Every time i set the chip, last 2 times with the re-flashed bios, ieved the blinking green LED. then I set it to mode two (switch 1 off and 2 on) I start up normally with no icon anywhere.

EDIT:
Hello hello! it freaking works! got the slayers dvd running at last. dunno what happened, but third time is the charm as they say. Thanks for everyon's help with this.

yes the drive needs to be locked go into the unlock lock format option in the slayer evox disk select unlock first then select lock then select format drive then run the installer

if useing the stock hard drive take warning the stock hard drive doesn't use f drive at all so in order to use the full potential of your evox installation i would recommend going to a bigger hard drive

then from the installtion screen select

stock hard drive install

or upgraded hard drive install for bigger hard drives

Since what you told me doesn't seem to be working, let me go through how I interperated your process to see if I have this correct...

Choose option number 4: "APPS/UPGRADES/LOCK/FORMAT"
Choose option 4B: "ANY HARD DRIVE LOCK/UNLOCK & FORMAT"
Choose option 4B1: "LOCK/UNLOCK"
UNLOCK the HDD and then LOCK it.
From there press the "B" button to go back and choose option 4B2: "FORMAT HARD DRIVE/RESTORE RETAIL"
continue throgh backup warning
choose option 4b2-1: "Full Clean Format of RETAIL HD"
Choose "Yes" and allow the drive to format
Press the "B" button until the main screen is dispayed again (Screen with options labelled numericly with no alphabetical characters)
Choose option number 3: "NEW INSTALL/FULL REBUILD"
Choose option 3B: "NEW INSTALL/FULL REBUILD - RETAIL HD"
Continue through backup warning
Choose option 3b1: "FULL INSTALL/REBUILD RETAIL HD - 5960"
Select "Yes" and allow the installer to continue until the text "Done" is displayed
From there simply restart the console by either shutting the console down manually or through the final option of the installer disc, or select the "reboot" option from the installer disc. In both cases, remove the installer disc and the MS Retail edition dashboad should be replaced by my newly installed EvoX.

only I am still getting the MS dashboard as if my console remains unchanged...
Do I have this wrong somewhere? apparently the chip is running since the installer disc loads up, but if my procedure is correct then how do I run EvoX?
