Had Matrix, Can I Use Newer Chip?

A new chip will work fine. The on/off on/off is called Fragging, it would have done this if it couldnt read the bios properly, like the chip had moved, error 05 means the retail bios couldnt find its locked hdd so it wouldnt boot it. I would keep trying to align the matrix chip and if it aligns with the green light then try running a dashboard from CD, this will give you ftp access again to see whats changed on the HDD.

Yeh, good choice, there are several solderless adapters available for newer chips.
