It looks as if you xbox was not new but referbished.  The people where you bought it from should be able to exchange it out and all.  You can open it and remove the chip your self but I had bad feelings that the tsop might be flashed also or it could be flashed instead.  You will loose all regeion dvd playing but you will gain an Xbox console that you could mod yourself.
