Chameleon Frags When Booting To M$
« on: February 17, 2004, 10:32:00 AM »

So, I had this thing in just fine and working great yesterday.  Installation was simple enough, flashing was a little hiccup but nothing that I didn't overcome.

Before flashing the chip, I tested the on/off features through the power and eject buttons.  With the power button, chip went to cromwell, holding the eject button was sketchy at first.. first time it didn't really want to do anything, second time I just pressed a bit longer and it booted to M$.  Went ahead and flashed the chip with 4981.06 in the first bank.  leaving bank 2-4 with a cromwell image.  Once again, I tested the on/off functionality

Power: 4981
Eject: M$
both: cromwell

so, the next day, I pieced everything back together, installed evox on the stock HDD and then screwed the lid on.  I again tested it one more time (I'm fairly paranoid about software switching)

Power: 4981
Eject: Frag
both: cromwell

Something went wrong, and I can't figure out what it is since I didn't touch the board between when it was working and when it stopped working properly.  It won't boot to M$ at all.  I've removed the chip and snipped all the wires and it will power up with no audio, no video, no fragging, but that's it.. HDD spins up, acts like a normal boot, but nothing is actually going on.

what in the world happened to this xbox?  I've installed many xecuter chips and never seen this happen,  this however is my second chameleon and it's not a pretty sight right now.

just an update, put everything back together and then it wouldn't boot to the chip at all.. Power button or eject button.. both ended up giving me a booting xbox with no video/sound and no fragging at all.

Power and eject gave me the cromwell screen at one point, but stopped doing it on the next try.  I took the chip out once again and tried an xecuter, same thing, boots up no vid/audio.

this chip has ruined the xbox as far as I can tell.  guess I'll never be touching another chameleon ever again.

If anyone has any input I'd be happy to hear it.  I've searched the forums for no vid/audio problems and come up dry.

I've got the backups sitting on the computer, chip does pretty much nothing when in the xbox so I don't see how I could get into the drive to restore files (it only SEEMS like it boots up, it's not actually doing anything as far as I can tell).. though I've played around with it some more and come up with something else

chameleon in bank 2 boot (dip 3 on) it will boot to cromwell, this isn't that great of a thing since the chameleon seems to only allow flashing the chip if it's in mode 1 though cromwell (what genius thought that one up?) but it does give me a little hope.

I've tried putting an xecuter chip on there but it results in no video/audio also.

gonna play around a bit more and see what I can come up with.
